About the role:

At Vantage, the VP, Head of Insurance Risk Management, is a critical leader. This role is essential for overseeing risk management within the Insurance function, providing leadership and guidance on the top risks to Vantage. While directly responsible for insurance risks, the position also considers broader Group risks and collaborates with other Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) leaders to ensure cohesive risk management across the organization. Key areas include capital usage, exposure management, risk reporting, and risk mitigation.

By partnering with departments such as underwriting, actuarial, and finance, this position ensures that risk management is effectively integrated throughout the company, offering valuable context to both internal and external stakeholders. We are seeking an experienced, energetic, creative, and self-motivated executive who thrives on leadership engagement, in-depth analysis, developing new functionalities and analytics, and working closely with other leaders to achieve shared goals.

The base salary expectation for this role is between $240, 000 and $280, 000. Actual base salary for the selected candidate may be higher commensurate with candidate experience and expectations. Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Lead and manage the risk management function for Insurance, providing strategic insights and recommendations on top risks.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of key risks across areas such as property, casualty, cyber, political risk, and credit, and report findings to stakeholders, including the Board of Directors.
  • Integrate third-party models (e.g., AIR, Cyence) into analysis and drive the development of internal technology tools for risk management.
  • Provide leadership on capital usage for US entities, collaborating with the Group CRO and other leaders to guide capital strategies.
  • Develop and enhance risk reporting, engaging with key stakeholders and supporting Group board reporting as needed.
  • Oversee underwriting referrals based on established risk management guidelines and thresholds.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, finance, and actuarial functions to ensure cross-functional project alignment, including risk projections during business planning.
  • Strategically partner on reinsurance outwards purchasing, analyzing loss curves and reinsurance structures.
  • Lead risk-management engagement with regulators in Delaware and rating agencies to meet requirements and expectations.
  • Work with ERM lead and other key leaders on high-priority risk management filings, such as ORSA.
  • Collaborate with the CRO of VRL and Partnership Capital on group-level initiatives and integrated underwriting priorities.
  • Provide expertise in developing and enhancing internal capital model, co-owning assumptions with the Chief Pricing Actuary.
  • Participate in event response and underwriting analysis for large events.
  • In collaboration with the Group CRO, ERM Lead, and CRO of VRL and Partnership Capital, drive the enterprise risk management framework and sub-frameworks, such as model risk and third-party risk.
  • Collaborate with Data, Analytics, and Technology to enhance risk management tools and processes.
  • Ensure adherence to best practices in risk management and stay updated on industry trends.
  • Act as a thought leader within the organization.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • 12+ years' experience in risk management, including underwriting, capital, specialty E& S products, exposure management, catastrophe/risk modeling, and risk reporting.
  • Experience leveraging internal and external capital models and utilizing outputs for informed decision-making.
  • Proficient in distribution/curve analysis within analytics to support business decisions, such as reinsurance outwards purchasing.
  • Skilled in programming, database building, and cloud environments.
  • Proven track record of collaborating with business partners and influencing stakeholders.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking, with innovative approaches to align work with organizational goals.
  • Expertise in change management, capable of developing and implementing effective transition plans.
