About the role:

The Actuarial Analyst – Financial & Professional Lines will play an important role in Vantage’s Insurance business by supporting a variety of lines across the team. The lines of business supported include, but are not limited to: Cyber, Directors & Officers Liability, Errors & Omissions Liability, and Employment Practices Liability. In addition to those direct lines, there will also be opportunity to support delegated authority oversight for similar lines of business. This position will be part of the Insurance Pricing Team and will report to the Senior Pricing Actuary of Financial & Professional lines. We are flexible in terms of location, with both remote and in-office options available.

This position will allow the analyst to develop advanced statistical knowledge and business acumen. They will work closely with the experienced actuaries on the team and will also have the opportunity to work with the underwriting leadership of the teams they help support. This person should have a keen attention to detail, enjoy solving problems, and proactively contribute to improving pricing operations relating to this portfolio.

The base salary expectation for this role is between $80, 000 and $110, 000. Actual base salary for the selected candidate may be higher commensurate with candidate experience and expectations. Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Assist with building and maintaining pricing models to support the Cyber, Professions and Financial Lines business units.
  • Perform other actuarial duties including, but not limited to, performing profitability and rate adequacy studies, competitor research, running internal and external models, and reinsurance support.
  • Engage with the underwriting teams.
  • Find innovative and creative ways to leverage data and analytics to support the pricing and underwriting functions.
  • Take on other ad hoc work and projects as time permits and under the direction of other members of the Insurance Pricing team.
  • Remain current on industry trends, tools, and actuarial techniques.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field; or the equivalent in related work experience.
  • 0-3 years of actuarial experience. New university graduates with the appropriate technical skills are encouraged to apply. Candidates with more than 3 years of experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Two or more exams passed preferred; desire to pursue actuarial credential encouraged (which would be supported by Vantage).
  • Proven track record of creative problem solving and attention to detail.
  • Project work requiring scripting and programming languages is strongly preferred: R and SQL as examples.
  • Excel VBA experience is a plus.
  • Ability to process and adapt to change in a rapid growth new-company environment. Vantage associates are expected to be curious, thrifty, and resourceful to manage through the unknowns of growing a specialty (re)insurance business from the ground up.
