RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work as part of the North American Installation Technical Operations team, focused on engineered system installations.
- Provide on-site installation support for systems manufactured by Samuel Packaging Systems Group.
- Possess expertise in various skill sets related to automated systems, including PLC systems support, automation controls, mechanical systems, electrical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Effectively communicate all relevant data from field installations, quickly identifying trouble areas to implement timely corrective actions that minimize customer impact and financial exposure.
- Participate in engineering, quality, and marketing projects to promote value initiatives within the Equipment Development team.
- Deliver high-level maintenance and operator training to ensure customer staff are fully capable of operating and maintaining the equipment.
- Demonstrate the ability to handle stressful and challenging situations.
- Exhibit the willingness and capability to make sound judgment calls and decisions.
- Collaborate with field service teams to hand off installations as directed by management.
- Keep leadership informed by communicating all significant information related to installations.
- Engage in new product development projects, which may involve additional leadership responsibilities during launch and field-testing stages.
- Maintain a high level of proficiency in field service duties concerning all equipment sold by Samuel PSG.
- Actively contributes to the advancement of products and programs within the department and the company.
- Demonstrate self-motivation and the ability to work well with others or independently with minimal supervision.
- Be detail-oriented and reliable to ensure customer satisfaction.
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Non directly, may have project-based supervision duties as assigned.
EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE:
- Previous experience in the Engineered Systems manufactured by Samuel Packaging Systems Group.
- It is highly preferred that this individual has experience working with the vendor-supplied heads and systems supported by SPSG, including Titan and Fromm.
- Candidates should be experienced in manufacturing automation controls and systems. Specific experience with PLC, IPC systems, with a background in Allen-Bradley brand control systems.
- Experience in conveyance and other automation devices standard in the packaging industries served by SPSG.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
- A two-year engineering degree from a college or technical institution in a related field is highly preferred. Experience in electrical engineering, industrial equipment design, field service, and automation is also preferred.
- Prior experience in installing automated packaging equipment is required.
- A valid U.S. or Canadian passport and driver's license is necessary.
- This position requires travel, which can be extensive, including trips within North America and occasionally abroad.
- Experience communicating effectively with international customers and vendors is essential.
- Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic aptitude is required.
- Ability to manage, communicate, and provide leadership within an engineering environment is necessary.
- Excellent communication skills are a must.
- Candidates should have the ability and willingness to make accurate and well-informed tactical decisions or recommendations.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, journals, technical documentation, government regulations, schematics, and blueprints is required.
- Candidates must be able to identify problems, collect relevant data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
In carrying out the responsibilities of this position, employees are regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use their hands for tasks such as pressing, handling, or feeling objects, and reach with their arms. Additionally, they may need to climb, maintain balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Practical communication skills, including speaking and hearing, are also necessary. Specific vision abilities required for this job include both close vision and distance vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- The noise level in the work environment can be loud; therefore, proper personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.
- Employees must be able to work in varying environmental conditions, including wet and dry climates, high heat, and frigid temperatures.
- This position requires a significant amount of travel, including international trips, primarily supporting the USA and Canada. The expected travel commitment is around 70%, but it may occasionally exceed that percentage.
