Role/ Department: The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is a critical member of the Chief Audit Executive (CAE) senior staff, as well as a member of the Audit Leadership Team. The CAO provides key direction and support to the CAE's management of the business of audit, including headcount management and tracking, oversight of third-party relationships, strategic development, initiatives and communications, organizational design and structuring, and collaborating with key business partners such as Human Resources and Finance to partner on key efforts such as financial management, career development and engagement. The CAO has a team of Business Managers who manage and prioritize a portfolio of projects and initiatives on behalf of assigned Audit Services' teams, including monitoring progress against departmental targets (e.g., resource utilization, plan schedules and deadlines), identifying and escalating bottlenecks, resourcing constraints, or dependencies, and addressing the sequencing of work as needed.
The key responsibilities of the role include: - Directs the resolution of highly complex or unusual business problems applying advanced critical thinking
- Guided by organization functional strategy, has broad impact on the functional, divisional or regional results
- Participates in developing the division's strategic and financial plan and sets goals and priorities based on the direction set for the unit; follows through to ensure that objectives are met
- Tracking key deliverables and identifying and escalating realized and potential obstacles and delays
- Provides leadership and guidance to staff, fostering and environment that encourages employee participation, teamwork and communication
- Provides execution of the foundational activities, which can include driving corporate issues to resolution in a timely fashion, driving communication plan to promote current status and change agenda to foster alignment of goals and deliverables, and liaising with other BU CAOs to leverage best practices
- Directs the activities of staff resources to support and facilitate business unit objectives
- Responsible for oversight, at the Business Unit level, of risk policy development and adherence
- Ensures effective communication between Audit and other corporate teams
- Thinking strategically to connect the dots across Audit teams and relaying key themes to the CAE
- Assessing department processes for efficiency and effectiveness
- Communicating quality expectations and driving accountability
Skills/ Qualifications: - Understanding of the end-to-end internal audit process, including annual planning, risk assessments and project execution (planning through reporting)
- Strong attention to detail
- Problem-solving skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to influence without direct authority and comfort providing reasonable challenge to senior management
- Highly flexible and adaptable to change
- Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong work ethic
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications - advanced MS Excel skills preferred
Salary Range:
$171, 700 - 300, 500 USD
Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
