Molex is seeking an experienced
Senior Embedded Electrical Engineer to join our team in Naperville, IL. This role is responsible for specifying, architecting, designing and verifying electronic devices based on microcontrollers, sensors and radios. These IOT based designs are for the purpose of creating solutions for our customers in the marketplace of medical/wearable sensors, tracking devices, loggers, tags, and smart labels.
This person will have knowledge of wireless interfaces such as Near Field Communications (NFC), Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), WiFi, and low bandwidth LTE-M cellular. This person is interested in designing battery-powered electronics that utilize very low power modes to extend the life of the battery. This person can select the components, design the schematic, guide efficient board layout, and bench level test the final result. This candidate enjoys the design challenge and investigates issues to improve the design based on previous design experiences.
This role reports into the engineering team and works directly with other design engineers, mechanical engineers, layout engineers, and test engineers. This person leads the electrical and software aspects of projects. This candidate understands the importance of documenting and following a documented product development process.
Product focus areas include BLE smart labels and wearable skin patches. Our facility focuses on silver printed electronic devices, which enables the development of unique flexible hybrid electronics. Generally, these devices have lower component count to remain flexible. Our legacy product lines include membrane switch user interfaces, capacitive touch user interfaces, and rubber keypad designs with steel dome switches and backlit graphics.
What You Will Do in Your Role
- Designs electronic circuits using schematic capture tools.
- Understands how to select components and integrate them with a microcontroller with timers, interrupts, A/Ds, PWM's, etc.
- Knows how to write firmware on microcontroller to interface with external devices such as sensors or wireless communication devices.
- Enjoys innovating and coming up with potential new designs. Thinks about the process of new products.
- Executes board bring-up activities to verify the full function of circuit using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeter, etc.
- Writes code on PC to assist in board bring-up and design validation activities.
- Experience documenting a Design Verification Plan and associated Report (DVP& R) for documenting results.
- Support to reliability lab for execution of design validation (DV) and production validation (PV) tests.
- Ability to identify aspects of design needs to be 100% tested on every unit; use that knowledge to write a Test Specification to provide guidance to a test engineer who will create the End of Line (EOL)test solution.
• Understanding of basic serial communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, and CAN. Experience using serial protocol validation tools and oscilloscopes to qualify communication busses.
• Estimates timelines for development work based on requirements and existing project workload and keeps track of time spent on various projects.
• Studies device specifications for electronic parts and selects parts based on performance and cost trade-offs.
• Research new technologies for product design; and propose ideas to advance our business unit's capabilities to stay ahead in the market.
• Quality experience with Failure Mode Effects Analysis and problem-solving methodologies specific to Automotive and Medical products. (DFMEA, PFMEA, 8D, and fishbones)
• Checks other engineers' schematics, board layouts, and fabrication drawings for completeness and accuracy.
• Creates technical documentation to support product release based on individual project needs.
• Interfaces with internal departments (manufacturing, quality, lab, sales and marketing) to ensure design objectives are met. Provides product information, engineering samples and technical advice on assigned programs.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate the ability to express complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
