Your Job

We are seeking a motivated mechanical engineer who wants to apply product design knowledge towards creating customer products. You will act as the primary mechanical engineer on your projects, utilizing CAD tools such as AutoCAD and NX to generate product drawings. You will collaborate with various process engineers to establish the manufacturing process flow for manufacturing your products. You enjoy being the mechanical engineering voice on a team creating custom designs.

Our Printed Circuit Solutions group is part of our Enabling Solutions Business Unit at Molex. We focus on developing User Interfaces, Smart Labels, Sensors and Power Electronics products for various applications.

What You Will Do

• Design the mechanical aspects of a customer design.

• Design of some basic electrical aspects of a customer design which may include layout of traces on a

• Utilize CAD software to develop engineering prints that can be used to manufacture each piece of a larger assembly.

• Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles in the development of customer prints.

• product design, BOM management, CAD breakdown, and utilize SAP to develop costing for customer designs.

• Capture and consolidate all cost contributions, optimizing:

o Material costs (electrical and mechanical components)

o Labor costs

o Capital costs for equipment

o Factory equipment usage

o Non-Returnable Engineering (NRE) costs

• Interact with the development and manufacturing team, suppliers, and management to understand how manufacturing methodologies affect costs.

• Learn about materials and technologies including flexible silver-printed circuits, flexible copper circuits, printed circuit boards, plastic injection molded parts, graphics, silicone rubber parts, electrical components, metal stamped parts, etc. for an electronic assembly to create accurately costed customer solutions.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.

• 3+ years of experience with design engineers to visualize and cost preliminary designs.

• Experience summarizing costing information to assist in winning new business opportunities.

• Proficiency in documenting assumptions and establishing part costs for both prototype and high-volume production.

• Knowledge of capital equipment costs and amortization.

• Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and other technical specifications.

• Knowledge of Bills of Material for electrical and mechanical components.

• Strong skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

What Will Put You Ahead (Preferred Qualifications)

• SAP Knowledge

• Exposure to Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) techniques.

• Experience with viewing Gerber files for layout design.

• Experience with 2D CAD viewing software such as AutoCAD.

• Experience with 3D CAD viewing software such as NX or equivalent.

• Understanding of manufacturing process flows for electronic assemblies.
