This role ensures that manufactured parts meet engineering specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements by conducting detailed measurements and analyses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) and laser scanning equipment to inspect and validate automotive parts and assemblies.
  • Program and set up CMM and laser scanning devices using software such as weldPC-DMIS, PolyWorks, or similar measurement software.
  • Interpret engineering blueprints, CAD models, GD& T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and technical drawings to determine inspection requirements.
  • Perform first article inspections (FAI), in-process checks, and final inspections to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Analyze and report measurement data to quality engineers, production teams, and design engineers to aid in process improvements and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain detailed inspection records, reports, and documentation for quality control and auditing purposes.
  • Perform calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of CMM and laser scanning equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with production, quality assurance, and engineering teams to resolve dimensional discrepancies and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and other industry standards for measurement and quality assurance.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures when handling equipment and working in manufacturing environments.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED required; an associate degree or certification in metrology, mechanical engineering, quality control, or a related field is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in CMM operation, laser scanning, or dimensional inspection in an automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in CMM programming and operation (PC-DMIS, Calypso, Mitutoyo MCOSMOS, or equivalent software).
  • Experience with laser scanning tools such as FARO Arm, Hexagon, or GOM scanning systems is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of GD& T, blueprint reading, and CAD model interpretation.
  • Ability to analyze complex measurement data and generate reports for quality analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and measurement system analysis (MSA) is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data entry and reporting.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a production or laboratory environment.

Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing plant and quality lab settings with exposure to noise, machinery, and inspection equipment.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots may be required.
  • Shift work, overtime, and weekend availability may be necessary depending on production schedules.
