Technical Trainer, Heavy Equipment


The Technical Trainer will be responsible for providing technical training, product support, demonstrations and mechanical repair expertise. In collaboration with key stakeholders, this role will contribute to the Company’s strategic training objectives, by exploring learning and development gaps and opportunities, contributing to the delivery of training on diagnostic, maintenance, and repair procedures. This role will also support resolving internal and external customer inquiries relating to troubleshooting and diagnostic repairs. This position will report to the Training & Development Manager.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Associate’s degree or technical certificate in diesel or heavy equipment technology preferred
  • Must have, or be willing and able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check

Experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience as a heavy equipment, truck or diesel technician
  • 2+ years’ experience in mentoring and training new technicians
  • Previous experience in a product support role or similar technical position is an asset.
  • Previous experience developing training materials and conducting training is an asset.
  • Extensive experience using various diagnostic software.
  • Experience using MS Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Previous customer service experience

Travel Expectations:

  • Up to 50% - ability to travel across the US


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical instruction to technicians on all products represented by the Company - this includes entry level to advanced heavy equipment technicians
  • Conduct live demonstrations of equipment and diagnostic tools for internal teams and external customers, showcasing proper and safe operation, maintenance procedures and technical capabilities
  • Develop and maintain technical tools such as product support documentation, FAQ’s and technical training content
  • Provide ongoing technical support and product knowledge to customers during training sessions, equipment hand-overs and follow ups
  • Collaborate with sales and service teams to deliver tailored training and support solutions that address equipment configurations, operational challenges and customer-specific needs
  • Review and assist in the determination and evaluation of core competencies and technician training needs
  • Participate in and plan an onboarding and refresher service training schedule which includes assigning training, calendar coordination, tracking training progress and effectiveness
  • Participate in equipment/ factory training as required to ensure knowledge and skills are kept up to date current with manufacturer’s specifications and operational and maintenance procedures
  • Promote a culture of safety and compliance with OSHA and company guidelines
  • Evaluate and ensure confidentiality of employee training results
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned
