Position Overview

We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team. In this role, you will be directly integrated into our new product design and validation processes. You’ll assist in bringing products from initial concept through prototyping and testing, gaining hands-on experience with real-world engineering challenges. You will get hands-on exposure with our Elgin and Vactor products in our test lab environment and work on value-add projects in cooperation with our principal engineers.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design & Modeling: Assist in creating and refining 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings using Siemens NX. Modeling may also include exposure to Ansys FEA for structural analysis.
  • Prototyping: Build and assemble physical prototypes using external and internal fabrication resources.
  • Testing & Validation: Set up and conduct mechanical tests (stress, thermal, fluid flow) and document results to ensure designs meet safety and performance standards.
  • Documentation: Develop engineering drawings and assist in writing technical specifications and assembly instructions.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Participate in design reviews and brainstorm sessions with the electrical, software, and manufacturing teams.

Position Requirements

  • Completed two years of study towards a Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to do some travel to visit with our municipal customers and assist in installing equipment.
  • Ability to run statistical calculations and perform analysis on raw data samples.
  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain a high level of professionalism.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in a logical and rational manner; demonstrate “common sense”, practical approaches.
  • Ability to gather facts, analyze problems in depth and break down into components.
  • Ability to demonstrate an outgoing, enthusiastic and positive attitude that establishes collaborative relationships with peers and allows adaptation to and operation in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Computer proficient with solid knowledge of MS office product suite.

Anticipated Starting Wage: $22.00
