The Rasmussen Group Inc is hiring a Asphalt Quality Control Manager in Des Moines, IA. This is a full-time position.
We are seeking an experienced Asphalt Quality Control Manager to lead our quality control and mix design efforts across asphalt production and paving operations. In this role, you'll serve as the technical leader for asphalt quality, overseeing everything from mix design development and laboratory testing to plant production and field performance. You'll work closely with plant operations, paving crews, project teams, suppliers, and agency representatives to ensure our products consistently meet the highest standards for quality, performance, and compliance. What You'll Be Doing As our Asphalt Quality Control Manager & Mix Designer, you will: Lead and manage the company's asphalt quality control and quality assurance programs. Develop, optimize, and maintain asphalt mix designs and job-mix formulas for a variety of projects and material sources. Oversee laboratory and field testing programs, analyze results, identify trends, and ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards. Monitor asphalt production and paving operations to maintain consistent mixture quality, performance, and workability. Investigate quality concerns, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to improve production and paving performance. Partner with operations, project management, plant personnel, paving crews, suppliers, engineers, and agency representatives to achieve quality objectives. Prepare and manage mix design submissions, quality reports, testing documentation, certifications, and project closeout records. Ensure laboratory equipment, testing procedures, and certifications remain compliant with applicable ASTM, AASHTO, Superpave, DOT, FAA, and other agency requirements. Supervise, train, and mentor laboratory and quality control personnel while promoting a strong culture of quality and continuous improvement. Stay current on advancements in asphalt technology, recycled materials, testing methods, and specification changes. Why Join Us? Work Environment This role combines office, laboratory, plant, and field responsibilities. You'll spend time in asphalt plants, aggregate facilities, laboratories, and active paving and construction sites. The position requires: Travel between plants, laboratories, and project locations. Outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Occasional nights, weekends, and extended hours during peak production periods. Compliance with all safety policies and PPE requirements. Work around construction equipment, industrial facilities, and moderate to high noise environments.
