Job Description

Schneider Electric is hiring a Project Manager in Cedar Rapids, IA. This is a full-time position.

Position Summary

The Services Project Manager is the primary coordination and execution-control point for electrical equipment startup and commissioning work supporting the strategic C& SP account data center portfolio. The role translates customer milestones into safe, commercially authorized, resource-backed execution plans and coordinates field service, engineering, operations, vendors, and customer stakeholders from project handoff through acceptance and closeout.

The Project Manager owns the management process for assigned projects, including scope, schedule, readiness, resources, risks, customer communication, financial controls, issue resolution, documentation, and closeout. Technical work and technical dispositions remain with qualified field and engineering personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Planning and Scope Control
    • Review statements of work, purchase orders, quotes, equipment lists, project milestones, deliverables, exclusions, and testing responsibilities at handoff.
    • Establish the project baseline, stakeholder map, communication cadence, responsibility matrix, risk register, and deliverables plan.
    • Identify scope changes, customer-caused delays, repeat mobilizations, after-hours support, and other commercial exposure before unapproved work proceeds.
  • Schedule, Readiness, and Resource Coordination
    • Develop and maintain integrated startup and commissioning schedules, look-aheads, dependencies, constraints, and recovery actions.
    • Lead evidence-based site readiness reviews covering installation, power, communications, access, safety, environmental conditions, drawings, test scripts, tools, and supporting parties.
    • Issue and document go/no-go recommendations before mobilization, including missing prerequisites, owners, recovery dates, and schedule or cost impacts.
    • Forecast Field Service Representative, vendor, and engineering demand and coordinate work orders, skills, dates, travel, orientation, access, and reporting expectations.
  • Startup and Commissioning Execution
    • Coordinate Services participation in equipment startup, commissioning, functional testing, and integrated systems testing in accordance with the governing scope and site plan.
    • Lead daily and weekly execution coordination during active work, aligning priorities, resources, prerequisites, safety constraints, issues, and next steps.
    • Ensure qualified technical personnel perform equipment operation, troubleshooting, testing, programming, and technical disposition.
    • Collect and maintain field reports, test records, checklists, as-left files, redlines, photos, settings, and acceptance evidence.
  • Issue, Risk, and Escalation Management
    • Maintain risk, action, decision, escalation, and punch-list registers with clear owners and due dates.
    • Create or validate complete issue records in the required customer platform, including location, equipment identification, evidence, impact, ownership, and closure criteria.
    • Package technical escalations with concise problem statements, drawings, logs, measurements, actions attempted, schedule impact, and a clear decision request.
    • Escalate safety, quality, readiness, schedule, resource, technical, customer, and commercial risks through established channels.
  • Customer and Cross-Functional Leadership
    • Serve as the primary Services coordination point for assigned projects and provide concise status, risk, decision, staffing, and recovery-plan updates.
    • Build effective working relationships with customer project teams, general contractors, commissioning agents, electrical contractors, Field Service, Engineering, Sales, Finance, order teams, plants, quality teams, and approved service partners.
    • Lead or support customer status reviews, daily commissioning meetings, resource-planning discussions, technical issue reviews, financial reviews, and closeout meetings.
    • Communicate commitments accurately by distinguishing requested, forecast, scheduled, and confirmed dates.
  • Financial and Commercial Management
    • Monitor work-order charging, labor, contractor and vendor costs, purchase-order status, billing support, forecast, and margin risk.
    • Separate base scope, warranty, remediation, and added services using the appropriate authorization and cost path.
    • Support quotation and change-order workflows with documented scope, schedule, labor, material, and customer-impact evidence.
    • Prevent unfunded or unauthorized work while maintaining clear communication about customer schedule needs.
  • Documentation and Closeout
    • Maintain an organized and current project record in required internal and customer repositories.
    • Confirm all reports, checklists, issues, acceptance evidence, commercial items, and financial records are complete before closeout.
    • Lead project or phase closeout, document residual actions, and capture lessons learned for reuse across the program.
    • Contribute to standard work, templates, onboarding resources, and continuous improvement activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Project Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of project management, construction coordination, field service, commissioning, electrical infrastructure, or other complex technical execution experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders, schedules, risks, action items, and customer commitments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing project financials, scope changes, purchase orders, work orders, forecasts, or change-order processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarize complex issues and request clear decisions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, including Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to travel periodically to active construction sites and comply with customer safety, orientation, and access requirements.
