Your Role: IACUC Administrator

The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Administrator coordinates and provides assistance to ensure that all animal care and use activities related to research and/or teaching conform to all applicable Elanco, State, Federal and other external regulatory requirements and guidelines.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Manages all administrative functions of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC also referred to as the Committee) as described in FD-RDAW-SOP-00001, EBP-GAW-002, EBP-GAW-003, and FD-RDAW-SOP-00002, and the Global Elanco Ethics Committee (GEEC), which reviews animal care and use for applicable animal studies at contract research organizations as well as field studies in accordance with Elanco EFP-GAW-002, EFP-GAW-004, and EBP-GAW-001.

  • Responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Committee’s functions and activities, including scheduling and logistics for meetings, inspections, designated review schedules and training new and existing committee members.

  • Reviews Animal Care and Use Protocol (ACUP) submissions to ensure compliance with administrative requirements in advance of the IACUC review including completeness of the ACUP and compliance with local standards

  • Devises, modifies, and maintains the maintenance and coordination of complex filing systems, records and data systems. (Currently includes the IACUC SharePoint both company wide and committee specific access, the IACUC on-line application and it’s SharePoint repository, as well as numerous veterinary medical records).

  • Responds to requests for information and aid in solving a variety of problems relating to ACUP submissions, approvals, amendments, committee comments, application errors, etc.

  • Serves as a resource regarding policies and procedures relating to institutional animal care and use or related research compliance functions, with responsibility to occasionally interpret such policies and procedures.

  • Oversee and implements the IACUC’s Post Approval Monitoring (PAM) program. The PAM program provides the IACUC with observation of in-life studies and ensures compliance with the approved ACUP, Elanco Animal Welfare Guidelines and government regulations for those studies

  • Prepares reports on annual animal usage and IACUC updates for AAALAC, gathers and records animal usage at Fort Dodge site for the Attending Veterinarians annual reporting to the USDA, prepares reports on annual animal usage and IACUC updates for AAALAC

  • Responsible for Good Laboratory Practice - 21 CFR 58 (GLP) study protocol execution such as administration of test articles, collection of samples and recording of data in accordance with the study protocol and applicable Elanco procedures

What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):

  • Bachelor's Degree in a science-related field

  • 3+ years' experience working in a research setting, with animals

What Will Give You the Competitive Edge (preferred qualifications):

  • RVT, CVT or equivalent, knowledgeable in husbandry, care and techniques used in veterinary medicine or animal research

  • CPIA status (Certified Professional IACUC Administrator)

  • Experience with USDA regulations, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and the Guide for the Care and Use of Agricultural Animals in Research and Teaching.
