Description:

Cornell College invites applications for a full-time staff accountant/student accounts manager. The manager performs the accounting, billing, and collection of the financial accounts and loans of current and former students. The position also assists with reconciliations, reporting, and general ledger entries.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for student and miscellaneous account receivable billing and invoicing.
  • Responds to inquiries in person, on the phone, and in writing.
  • Analyzes and develops procedures for timely recording of account receivables.
  • Responsible for reconciling student account receivables and student deposits with the general ledger.
  • Prepares, reviews, and publishes accurate monthly student billing statements.
  • Assists the controller with reviews, posts, and the reconciliation of financial assistance.
  • In coordination with the customer service specialist, processes refund payments.
  • Initiates contacts and correspondence regarding past-due student accounts.
  • Applies charges to student and miscellaneous accounts as necessary.
  • Supervises, trains, and jointly coordinates the scheduling of student workers.
  • Responsible for 1098·T preparation and processing.
  • Responsible for processing, collecting, and reporting on College loan programs.
  • Monitor compliance with federal loan programs, state requirements, and general compliance for these programs including entrance and exit loan requirements.
  • Responsible for oversight of CashNet software system for student payments and payment plans.
  • Assists with posting, balancing, and reconciling outside scholarship accounts with student accounts and general ledger.
  • Supervises the customer service specialist.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of three years of recent accounting or student accounts experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Prior student account experience and/or willingness to become the subject matter expert

  • Knowledge of general accounting and collection methods and procedures
  • Ability to communicate, both written and oral, effectively and maintain confidentiality
  • Exercise professional judgment when applying sound accounting and cash handling policies, procedures, and principles
  • Personal computer experience in word processing, spreadsheets, and database
  • Analytical skills to be able to reconcile and invoice account receivables
  • Ability to respond quickly to deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ethical with an ability to develop a deep sense of trust
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team atmosphere
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily while seated in an office environment. Will require some walking from building to building to attend meetings, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. May also involve climbing stairs to visit other areas in buildings with limited elevator access. This position works in person on campus.

The hiring pay range for this position is $50, 000 - $60, 000.
