Company Overview

Schneider Electric is a global leader in energy management and automation, delivering innovative solutions that ensure Life Is On for everyone, everywhere, at every moment. We are expanding our technology capabilities in Gurugram and seeking an experienced Build & Release Manager to strengthen our release governance and CI/CD engineering practices within our Agile/SAFe-aligned delivery organization.

Role Overview

The Build & Release Manager owns the end-to-end build, packaging, and deployment lifecycle across multiple environments and applications. This role ensures predictable, repeatable, secure, and high quality releases at scale. The ideal candidate brings deep CI/CD expertise, strong release governance in enterprise environments, and the ability to influence cross functional teams to continuously improve delivery efficiency and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Release Governance & Orchestration
  • Develop and maintain a consolidated release calendar aligned with product/application owners, business blackout periods, and critical timelines.
  • Lead release orchestration across multiple teams, including readiness reviews, risk & dependency tracking.
  • Integrate with ITSM/Change Management processes to ensure compliant, auditable releases with all approvals and evidence in place.
  • Establish and maintain communication plans, release notes, and change logs; ensure stakeholder visibility throughout the lifecycle.
  • Conduct post release smoke tests and reviews (retrospectives) and drive actionable improvements across teams.
  • Monitor and present release performance metrics to leadership for data driven decisions.
  • Manage hot-fix release in the field
Build, CI/CD & Deployment Ownership
  • Manage and optimize CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps / Jenkins / GitLab CI / Bamboo) for Dev, QA, UAT, Staging, and Production.
  • Ensure high availability and resilience of build pipelines; implement appropriate branching, tagging, versioning, and packaging strategies.
  • Create and maintain automated build/deploy scripts, including rollback and recovery procedures.
  • Troubleshoot build and deployment failures; lead cross functional resolution with development, QA, and infrastructure teams.
Environment & Configuration Management
  • Coordinate with QA teams for test data management where applicable
  • Own environment setup, baseline configuration, access orchestration, and alignment across the delivery chain.
  • Maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates (e.g., Terraform) and ensure environment parity.
  • Oversee post release environment stability monitoring and capacity/refresh planning
Quality, Security & Compliance
  • Embed automated quality gates (unit tests, code coverage, SonarQube) in the build process.
  • Integrate security scanning into pipelines (SAST/DAST, dependency and container scans) and coordinate with Cybersecurity and R& D team for remediation.
  • Ensure adherence to audit, security, and governance standards; maintain compliant documentation and traceability for releases.
Cross Functional Collaboration & Leadership
  • Partner with Engineering to improve build reliability and speed; with QA to align test automation within CI/CD.
  • Coordinate with Infrastructure/Operations for deployment readiness, rollback plans, and incident preparedness.
  • Coordinate with the pen testing team (both external and internal SVV) for getting the relevant features through the necessary testing and get the mitigations addressed from R& D for the concerns raised.
  • Communicate release status, risks, issues, and mitigation plans to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Influence without authority to drive consistent practices across teams and geographies; facilitate conflict resolution when needed.
Required Technical Skills
  • Handson experience with CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab CI, Bamboo, etc.).
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python, YAML).
  • Experience with cloud systems (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Strong understanding of containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of version control systems (Git/GitHub/GitLab).
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (Grafana, ELK, AppInsights, etc.).
  • Familiarity with DevOps concepts and automation frameworks.

Soft Skills
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and cross functional coordination.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Calm leadership under pressure during high stakes releases; effective at risk-based decision-making.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority and align teams around common standards.
  • Process driven mindset with focus on standardization, governance, and continuous improvement.
  • Flexible, proactive, and "whatever is needed" attitude; comfortable taking on responsibilities beyond formal scope.
  • Ability to make tactical/operational decisions quickly in dynamic environments.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 8-10 years of experience in Build/Release Engineering or DevOps.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in Release Management / Delivery Management / Project Management within digital product organizations.
  • Experience operating in enterprise scale, multiteam Agile/SAFe environments.
  • Knowledge of ITIL Change Management practices.
  • Experience working with global teams across Europe, APAC, and the Americas.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, and CI/CD platforms.
  • Willingness to support business critical releases outside standard business hours when required.

Success Metrics (What Great Looks Like)
  • Release predictability: % of releases delivered on schedule; reduction in unplanned/emergency releases.
  • Quality at release: Reduction in production defects, hotfixes, and rollbacks.
  • Pipeline reliability: CI/CD uptime, mean time to recover (MTTR) for pipeline failures.
  • Cycle time: Reduction in build and deployment lead times; improved time to market.
  • Environment stability: Availability, parity across stages, and reduced environment related incidents.
