Job Description:

Reporting directly to the Surgical Vision Global Implant Platform Engineering Director, the Supply Chain Manufacturing Engineering Director will be responsible for leading and directing all engineering & technology activities within the Groningen, Netherlands and Uppsala, Sweden, Surgical Vision Manufacturing sites while actively participating in Implant Platform Engineering initiatives.

The core purpose of the role is to be a CREDO leader in leading and running the Supply Chain Engineering team to deliver engineering strategies and technologies to support the delivery of new and existing Implant products (Intraocular Lens, Shunts, OVDS and any other product deemed appropriate for manufacture at the Groningen and Uppsala facilities), at the right quality, quantity, time and cost, to our customers. The successful candidate will also be a member of the Groningen Site Leadership Team (SLT), the Uppsala Site Leadership Team and the Global Implant Platform Engineering Leadership Team. They will need to possess a strong strategic vision and a willingness to be hands-on in all aspects of manufacturing and supply chain engineering as appropriate.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Innovation Management

· Lead the collaboration and partnership with R& D and relevant multi-functional teams to prioritize and ensure New Product Introduction/Research and Development projects are completed in a timely and efficient manner

· Accountable for the development of a pipeline of manufacturing strategies and technologies to improve the quality, product manufacturing costs & /or efficiencies for new and existing products.

· Analyse rationale, investment requirements, development timing, market potential, and return on investment for all engineering projects.

· Implementation and governance of a manufacturing equipment asset management program from specification to obsolescence ensuring balance between optimizing technological capabilities and return on investment.

· Utilise World Class tools and techniques (Lean, Six Sigma, etc..) to optimize throughput, yield, reliability, availability, longevity, operational safety, and overall total cost of ownership for all manufacturing equipment and production systems.

· Own and lead the technology roadmaps for the site to support transformational process development Business Results

· Deliver a quality-focused culture ensuring compliance to cGMP’s and Quality Systems as defined in the Quality Manual

· Champion Safety within the engineering team and site, ensure the implementation and maintenance of the IOSS system and the Implementation of safety/environmental requirements on all manufacturing equipment.

· Direct, guide and provide oversight for the capital long-term financial planning (LRFP), forecasting, budgeting, controlling, and reporting of the site capital plan communicating status and health to site and network partners.

· Accountability for all engineering projects to run cost efficiently and deliver manufacturability and reliable products.

· Ensure metrics for engineering performance are met and plans are in place to provide continuous improvement.

· Instill and maintain a sense of purpose and customer focus within the manufacturing engineering team. Interpersonal & Talent Development

· As a Credo leader, proactively challenge existing paradigms leading to breakthrough business improvement initiatives aligned to the strategic business plan.

· Engage, encourage, empower, and coach a highly competent team, and collaborate both horizontally and vertically across functions, sites and the overall enterprise to enable year over year growth, new products, process simplification and technology development.

· Build and develop the engineering team through the selection, recruitment, development and performance management of exceptional engineering talent, and the development of core technical skills and knowledge to support future growth

· Lead resource allocation and project management across multi-disciplinary projects to ensure delivery of Business objectives/priorities

· Develop both team and individual goals and objectives and measure actual performance against them, to ensure delivery of exceptional performance to internal and external customers.

· Ensure the performance management process and completion of appraisals, mid-year reviews and development conversations are completed in a timely manner. Provide timely and honest feedback on performance even in difficult situations.

Education and Experience:

· A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science or a related Discipline.

· A minimum of 8 years relevant business experience and minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Life Sciences industries (Medical Device, Biotechnology or Pharmaceutical).

· Manufacturing and / or Engineering management experience in FDA or other regulated environments from design to production

· Experience in conceptual manufacturing equipment/process development, design and implementation, planning and scheduling and project management of capital projects

· Experience new product introduction and in managing cross functional teams.

· Program and project management qualifications and expertise working with multi-functional teams in an engineering/operational environment.

· Track record in business case development in a technical environment and associated record of significant improvements in industry

· Must demonstrate working knowledge of process development and validation, including design of experiments, statistical analysis, Equipment maintenance

· Flexible work ethic.

· Strong influencing skills - Excellent communication skills (written and oral).

· Problem solving skills – To assist in maintaining project progress and on design issues.

· Decision Making – Required to make decisions on technical and management issues.

· Degree of responsibility – Must be capable of managing and developing the team.

· Excellent Planning & Organizing Skills

· Extent of Confidentiality - Discretion is essential in view of contact with outside parties, product development strategies & regulatory.

  • Travel between Groningen, Netherlands and Uppsala, Sweden required
