Description:
Respiratory Therapist II — Night Shift
The Respiratory Therapist II provides advanced respiratory care for patients with complex needs, primarily in critical care settings. This role involves independent clinical decision‑making, ventilator management, patient assessment, and delivery of specialized respiratory therapies. The RT II also supports patient and family education, mentors new staff, and contributes to a safe, high‑quality care environment.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
• Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments and determine appropriate therapy
• Administer aerosolized medications, oxygen therapy, bronchial hygiene, and volume expansion
• Manage ventilators, including weaning and waveform interpretation
• Perform airway management (intubation, extubating, trach care and changes)
• Obtain and analyze arterial blood gases
• Assist with invasive and non‑invasive procedure cardiac services, and pulmonary diagnostics
Patient & Staff Support
• Educate patients and families on respiratory care and disease management
• Mentor and precept new employees, students, and peers
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to plan and coordinate car
Safety & Quality
• Ensure accurate electronic documentation, orders, and charging
• Promote patient safety practices and evidence‑based care
• Participate in performance improvement initiatives
• Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant clinical environment
Qualifications
Education
• Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy required
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
Licensure & Certifications
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
• Respiratory Care Professional license
• BLS, ACLS, PALS
• NRP (or provisional within 180 days)
Experience
• 0–2 years of clinical experience
• Minimum 6 months of critical care experience required
Skills
• Strong communication and critical‑thinking abilities
• Ability to collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams
• Solid assessment and customer‑service skills
• Computer proficiency, including database familiarity
