Description:

The Manager, Service Technicians - Packaging is responsible for working with Service Technicians, Service Coordinator and branches daily to drive best practices and achieve growth goals of the overall packaging service department while managing all technician's day to day functions. (This is meant to be a guide. Duties may vary dependent upon management.

Essential Position Functions:
  • Plan, schedule, and manage all equipment installations with equipment team and best skilled technician for the project.
  • Be the lead for all automated line projects.
  • Provide local service repairs for customer calls and help as a backup where needed in other locations across the company.
  • Provide estimates for equipment installations for equipment specialists quotes to customers.
  • Work with manufacturers in communications and planning of providing installs for automation projects.
  • Track and communicate costs, hours, and expenses for actual time on installation and provide to the equipment billing coordinator.
  • Review and approve technicians credit card transactions.
  • Approve timecards and vacation requests for service technicians.
  • Address issues experienced by the technical team with tools, phones, vehicles and otherwise and communicate with internal resources in making those corrections as needed.
  • Communicate with Service Coordinator in scheduling technicians for customer calls as needed.
  • Set and drive annual goals and expectations for each technician including billable hours, performance, training for improvement of skills or equipment knowledge, etc.
  • Write and communicate annual reviews with all Service Technicians.
  • Hire, train, develop and performance manage team members effectively.
  • Plan work withs and trainings with individual technicians to understand their capabilities and elevate skill levels.
  • Plan training on Core Suppliers and New Suppliers for the Service Department team.
  • Identify, obtain and retain qualified Service Technicians in all branch coverage areas.
  • Provide service and technical onsite customer support functions as needed.
  • Manage all special projects.
  • Other duties as required.

Education and/or Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3 years documented experience managing service department program and technicians.
  • Must have intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) skills.
  • Must be able to efficiently use a Windows-based computer.
  • Knowledge of Packaging equipment, service and parts industry
  • Ability to prioritize and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Able to effectively handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communications skills.
  • Must be able to read and communicate in English, for safe and effective performance of the job and business operations.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to work alone, and with a team.

  • Travel 25-50% required
  • Regularly required to walk and stand continuously for long periods of time.

  • Will interact regularly with managers and staff.
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision.
Work Environment
  • Employee works in a variety of environments: Warehouse / Manufacturing / Production Floor/Office and due to travel/driving responsibilities will be exposed to weather and typical driving conditions.
  • The noise levels will fluctuate from quiet to loud, based on the environment.
