Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Technical Assistant for the Woodyard area to join our Cedar Springs, GA containerboard mill. This position will optimize operations across all shifts and crews (Disciplined Operations), ensure EHS compliance, support the department training efforts, and support/maintain the development of the lock/tag/verify system. The Woodyard departments primary responsibility is to safely, compliantly and cost effectively operate the longwood processing equipment consisting of two mainline chipper lines, four unloading/stacking cranes, four chip truck dumps, three stacker/reclaimers, and associated chip and bark delivery belts. This position will report to the Fiber Assistant Superintendent and have no direct reports.

The Cedar Springs facility is one of the largest containerboard facilities in the country with three paper machines that make different weights of brown paper & containerboard paper. The Cedar Springs Mill, located in the southwest corner of Georgia is approximately 28 miles from Dothan, Alabama. Dothan is the 6th largest city in the state of Alabama with a population of about 70, 000. From Dothan, you are only 90 miles from the beautiful Gulf Coast. You can easily drive to 3 capital cities in 3 1/2 hours or less. You are just 1.5 hours from Tallahassee, FL and Montgomery, AL. What You Will Do

  • Utilize the Asset Management Work Process (AMWP) to identify, prioritize and execute maintenance work to increase and improve the reliability of Woodyard assets.
  • Work as a team with the Woodyard Crew Leader to manage the day-to-day operations and to identify/close gaps in operator performance.
  • Analyze Woodyard processes and recommend changes
  • Develop and maintain clear communications with the wood procurement groups to secure consistent quality wood and bark supplies to the Woodyard.
  • Develop troubleshooting guides, short interval controls, operator basic care routes, and operating envelopes to support and improve our Discipline Operations (DO) efforts
  • Verify and Audit standards within the crews for safety, environmental, chip quality, productivity, training, and cost control
  • Provide safety leadership and knowledge
  • Complete daily tasks using time management, computer skills, and excellent communications skills
  • Work with high integrity in the assigned areas while holding others accountable
  • Work in a collaborative and cooperative manner with all departments and personnel
  • Focus with a sense of urgency, accountability, and principled entrepreneurship
  • Fill-in for the Woodyard crew leader as needed
  • Participate in the Fiberline call duty rotation covering the Pulp Mill, Caustic Area, Tall Oil and the Woodyard when on call.


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 8 or more years of experience working directly with longwood chipping and handling equipment within the pulp and paper industry; including heavy mobile equipment used in these applications.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Word (to write business correspondence), Excel (for use of spreadsheets, reporting, simple formulas) and Outlook (for internal and external correspondence)


What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • Technical training in mechanical or electrical maintenance through military or accredited technical training programs.
  • Experience with CMMS systems such as SAP or Asset Suites.
  • Successful track record of troubleshooting and resolving equipment issues
  • Direct supervisory experience in Woodyard, Pulping or Power departments
  • Experience teaching, coaching and mentoring others
