Your Job Georgia-Pacific is seeking a highly motivated Shipping Supervisor to join our team at the Rome Lumber Mill. This role will be responsible for managing the Shipping department consistent with Georgia-Pacific's PBM management philosophy and framework.
What You Will Do- Promote and drive a culture of safety by ensuring team members report hazards, incidents, and observations, and by proactively addressing safety concerns with appropriate solutions .
- Promote truck driver safety by ensuring all driver safety policies are followed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shipping area, ensuring all equipment is inspected and operational, and equipment issues are reported in a timely manner .
- Develop and coach direct reports through effective communication, performance feedback, and accountability.
- Motivate the shipping team to meet performance targets while looking for ways to contribute to long-term value creation for the mill.
- Collaborate with the Department Manager, Production, Sales, truck drivers, and contractors to manage and adjust inventory systems in real-time.
- Lead shipping operations to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and alignment with production schedules and mill benchmarks.
- Handle administrative duties such as reports, scheduling, and documentation so that leads can stay engaged on the floor.
- Support the rollout of new systems and technologies, coordinating closely with Safety, Quality, and Operations teams.
- Streamline processes related to inventory counts, trailer loading, staging, and shift transitions.
- Monitor and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices for shipping operations.
- Coordinate with production and sales to best manage finish goods inventory usage.
- Track and report key shipping performance metrics; help develop and implement improvements to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
- Ensure photos of loaded trailers are taken and stored appropriately for tracking and compliance .
- Assist in conducting monthly physical inventory audits to support mill-wide accuracy goals.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)- Experience as a lead or supervisor in a manufacturing or lumber production environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word).
- Available to work overtime, weekends, and be on-call as needed.
What Will Put You Ahead- Three (3) or more years of leadership experience in the wood products or lumber industry .
- Five (5) or more years of experience in warehouse or shipping operations.
- Working knowledge of inventory control systems, yard management, or logistics within a lumber facility.
For this role, we anticipate paying $70, 000 - $85, 000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
