Georgia-Pacific is hiring!

Description:

Your Job

As an Industrial Manufacturing Platform Engineer, you will build and operate the software platform capabilities that enable Georgia-Pacific's Connected Worker and Industry 4.0 initiatives. You'll help bring "smart factory" concepts to life by creating reliable, reusable services that connect manufacturing data to modern applications used by frontline teams and operational leaders.

You'll partner directly with manufacturing teams to translate operational problems into scalable solutions that can be deployed across operations. This role is for someone who can connect how factories run with how modern software is built-turning operational needs into reliable, reusable platform services and intuitive frontline experiences.

Location: Atlanta, GA Onsite Three Days Per Week.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Our Team

The Connected Worker team delivers Industry 4.0 capabilities through persona-based frontline applications that improve safety, quality, reliability, and productivity in our mills and converting facilities.

Our focus is building and scaling connected worker solutions-digital tools that help operators, technicians, and leaders execute standard work consistently and make better decisions in the moment. These applications are designed around distinct frontline personas and real plant conditions, providing the right workflow, data, and context at the point of work.

We work closely with operations leaders and cross-functional technology partners to ensure solutions integrate with core manufacturing systems and align with GP's broader smart factory roadmap-moving beyond pilots to sustainable, repeatable capabilities deployed across our global network.

What You Will Do
  • Evaluate smart manufacturing technologies by monitoring industry direction, conducting lightweight market scans, and running targeted proofs-of-concept to validate fit and inform standards/reference architectures
  • Turn trends into execution plans by translating insights into roadmaps that balance standardization, speed-to-scale, security, and architectural alignment across plants
  • Design and build platform services that enable Connected Worker and smart manufacturing use cases
  • Develop modern web experiences using React to support operational workflows and frontline usability in real plant conditions
  • Create reusable components and patterns that can be adopted across multiple plants and product teams to improve scalability and consistency
  • Partner with site teams and stakeholders to understand constraints, validate solutions in production environments, and iterate based on feedback
  • Deliver with strong engineering practices by aligning to enterprise architecture/security standards, using DevOps/CI/CD, and applying GenAI tools responsibly with appropriate judgment and quality controls

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Industrial Engineering background or equivalent manufacturing process expertise
  • Experience building production applications with .NET, DevOps and React
  • Experience with database development (tables, views, stored procedures; performance-aware design)
  • Experience with Agile delivery and DevOps practices (CI/CD, automated deployments, source control workflows)
  • Experience facilitating cross-functional technical decisions (e.g., documenting options/tradeoffs, driving to a decision, and aligning stakeholders) in a matrixed environment
  • Willingness to travel up to 15%
  • Must have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States without requiring visa transfer or sponsorship

What Will Put You Ahead
  • BS/MS in Industrial Engineering, Industrial Technology, Controls Engineering, or equivalent
  • Manufacturing/Industrial domain experience with hands-on manufacturing exposure
  • Experience translating operational problems into digital solutions
  • Lean/Six Sigma experience (e.g., participation in Kaizen events, value stream mapping, root cause analysis, or standard work)
  • Experience with IIoT / Industry 4.0 concepts and data sources
  • Experience with cloud-native design and hybrid (plant + cloud) architectures
  • Experience building solutions for frontline workers (mobile-friendly UX, offline/low-connectivity considerations, usability at the point of work)
