Georgia-Pacific is seeking qualified candidates to consider for a Laboratory Supervisor opportunity at our Brunswick, GA cellulose mill. The Lab Supervisor will supervise a team of Laboratory Technicians as well as be capable of performing environmental and process lab tests individually, using various chemicals and equipment. The ability to Supervise a team as well as carefully grasp and adhere to lab procedures while maintaining a high level of attention to detail in all aspects of the work is paramount to be successful in the role. Tasks include Leader Standard Work as part of Supervising the Lab Team and ensuring that the lab team completes their work such as collecting samples and testing throughout the mill. The Laboratory Supervisor will perform sampling and analysis alongside the team they are supervision which includes collecting samples for testing throughout mill; sample collection will include carrying loads of up to 50 pounds, navigating stairs and ladders, as well as executing tasks like bending, reaching, and operating valves. The ideal candidate will have prior supervisory experience leading hourly teams and will exhibit required interpersonal skills necessary to develop the laboratory team.

What You Will Do
  • To be responsible in managing the Environmental Compliance and ISO9000 compliance lab and related systems.
  • Prepare and email to site leaders the Wastewater Dashboard and results on time with accuracy, and with interpretation where necessary.
  • Support Operations as analytical issues arise.
  • Interface with external Laboratories and ensure analytical performed by external laboratories meets regulatory requirements.
  • Closely partner with Regional Wastewater Engineer, Operations Engineer, and external service providers to maintain compliance in the wastewater system.
  • Collaborate with other GP entities to share best practices. Ensure Brunswick Cellulose has good documentation around work practices and standard work.
  • Order laboratory supplies and be responsible for inventory.
  • Oversee the laboratory equipment including maintaining all required calibrations.
  • Perform Environmental Compliance Program oversight as requested and with training. Examples are Legionella program or other similar program.
  • To carryout tests as per Environmental requirements and test schedules assigned so as to meet requirements
  • To ensure all databases are updated on time and reports are filed properly.
  • Responsible for RIM compliance and GI Compliance in the lab and with all direct reports.
  • Responsible for training new laboratory technicians.


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • At least 3 to 7 years of experience in applied science field or holds an applied science degree.
  • At least 3 years of industrial experience in environmental compliance or regulatory area.
  • 5+ years of experience leading and supervising people
  • Worked in production/QA testing and failure analysis environment.
  • State Certified Wastewater Lab license or comparable certifications


What Will Put You Ahead
  • Knowledge in regulatory requirements for Environmental Compliance.
  • Experience with Pulp & Paper Quality Testing and procedures.
  • Holds certifications in Drinking Water Operator, Wastewater Operator, or other similar professional certifications from State of Georgia. Or willing to obtain such certifications quickly after taking the role.
  • Competent in IT skills such as MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
  • Great interpersonal skills and able to work in teams.
