City of Port Wentworth is hiring a Recreation Program Assistant in Port Wentworth, GA. This is a full-time position.

Please only complete those questions if you are applying for a Public Safety Position) Recreation Program Assistant Recreation Department JOB SUMMARYThis position supports recreation areas, programs, events, and daily operations. The Recreation Program Assistant assists the Program Coordinators, Program Supervisor, Assistant Director, and Director with daily activities, events, and programs. MAJOR DUTIES•Maintains recreation programs and event supplies, signage, sports equipment, and related resources.•Assists with implementing special programs, events, advertising, meeting preparation, and seasonal volunteer coach training.•Distributes and retrieves supplies, uniforms, and equipment.•Conducts daily checks of parks, the gym, concessions, and rental areas, and cleans and straightens areas before and after rentals and programs.•Assists with concession sales, exercise equipment maintenance, sports equipment assembly, office paperwork, and signage.•Assists with coaching a team or filling in when volunteers are not available.•Performs related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION•Skill in operating sports equipment, including pitching machines, gymnasium floor buffers, scoreboards, and athletic field paint-liners.•Knowledge of modern office practices, basic computer applications, administrative procedures, departmental policies, and sports and program regulations.•Skill in analyzing problems and developing and implementing solutions.•Skill in providing customer service.•Effective Customer service and public service knowledge.•Knowledge of recreation maintenance principles and practices. SUPERVISORY CONTROLSThis position works closely with volunteers and part-time staff but has no supervisory responsibilities. The position reports to the Program Coordinators and Program Supervisor. GUIDELINESGuidelines include department policies and procedures and the City HR Manual. These guidelines are clear and specific but may require interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK•Provides assistance to the Program Coordinators and Program Supervisor.•Contributes to a safe, well-maintained, attractive, and efficient environment for residents, program and event participants.•Success is demonstrated through positive participant feedback, effective peer relationships, and delivery of quality recreational and life-enhancing programs.•Serves on the emergency response team during hurricanes, inclement weather, or other city needs.•Provides after-hours assistance for city-sponsored events and programs as needed. CONTACTS•Contacts are typically made to provide services, exchange information, resolve problems, motivate or influence people, or justify, defend, or negotiate matters.•Contacts are typically with city department employees, volunteers, the Senior Center Director, and Recreation Department associates. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT•Work is performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses dexterous tools or equipment, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.•Work is performed throughout Recreation Department facilities and off-site events, programs, tournaments, and activities. Conditions may include cold, heat, inclement weather, dust, dirt, grease, noise, machinery with moving parts, and use of protective equipment. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY•This position has no supervisory responsibilities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS•High school diploma or GED equivalent and at least one year of experience in recreation or a related occupational field.•Possession of, or ability to readily obtain, a valid Georgia driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
