Position Summary

The Controller, Corporate Accounting is responsible for the overall direction, management, and integrity of the Company's accounting and financial reporting functions. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this role oversees all corporate accounting operations, ensures compliance with U.S. GAAP and regulatory standards, and provides accurate and timely financial reporting to support strategic business decisions.

Leads the accounting organization across the national enterprise, directs the implementation of new accounting standards, and manages purchase accounting and integration activities related to acquisitions. This role is critical in safeguarding assets, maintaining internal controls, and driving process improvements that strengthen financial governance and support Zenith's growth as a leading third-party health and benefits administrator.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages and oversees the daily operations of the Accounting Department
  • Directs all aspects of corporate accounting department including accounts receivable/payable, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes; ensure timely, accurate preparation of consolidated financial statements.
  • Leads the annual external audit process and coordinates with independent auditors.
  • Establishes and maintains a comprehensive system of internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Partners with the CFO and VP of Finance on corporate financial planning, forecasting, and risk management strategies.
  • Leads accounting integration efforts related to acquisitions, including purchase accounting and financial statement consolidation.
  • Documents accounting policies and processes (including implementation of new accounting standards, as applicable); drives efficiency and standardization across the department.
  • Implements best-in-class accounting processes, systems, and technologies to improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Hire, develop, and mentors accounting staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Serves as the primary accounting liaison to executive leadership and the Audit Committee on financial reporting matters.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in leadership roles.
  • Expertise in U.S GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and purchase accounting for acquisitions.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting systems (Workday Financial Management strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical skills in MS Office, with emphasis on Excel and financial modeling.
  • Proven experience leading accounting operations in complex, high-growth organizations.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with staff across all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead transformational changes, improve processes, and implement scalable solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA designation preferred
  • Experience in private equity-backed organizations strongly preferred.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize activities and manage competing demands.
  • Capacity to think strategically.
  • Demonstrates integrity in the workplace.
  • Takes initiative, drives projects forward, and actively engages with teams to deliver results.
