Description:

Nemours is seeking a Lead Perinatal Sonographer, FULL-TIME, to join our team in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

The Lead Perinatal Sonographer performs standard, specialty and complex obstetric diagnostic sonographic examinations and procedures with mastery, producing superior quality studies under a variety of conditions. They are responsible for working knowledge, operation and maintenance of all ultrasound related equipment, performance of ultrasound studies related to high-risk obstetrical ultrasounds and recording these images in the standard formats for diagnosis by a physician. The Lead Perinatal Sonographer is responsible for perinatal sonography orientation, training/education, and provides feedback to management regarding performance evaluations. The Lead Perinatal Sonographer must be ARDMS registered or registry eligible with completion of registry within one year of date of employment. The Lead Perinatal Sonographer is responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assurance and improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of Nemours.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides accurate room preparation and instructions to patient / family according to the procedure and physically prepares patient for examination which includes explaining the imaging procedure and answers pertinent procedural questions and provides patient education related to ultrasound procedure.
  • Responsible for patient identification, proper identification of all images, PACS interaction and documentation. Operates hospital computer system for patient data entry and retrieval/ order entry and completion of study.
  • Obtains, reviews, and integrates pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data to facilitate optimal diagnostic results.
  • Performs high quality and comprehensive diagnostic ultrasound imaging exams in accordance with established department guidelines and protocols under the supervision of the MFM Physician(s)
  • Performs or assists other employees in obtaining appropriate images and assists with performing scheduled equipment maintenance and/or troubleshooting equipment problems.
  • Prepares examination reports and effectively communicate clinical information and ultrasound technical findings to the interpreting physician.
  • Exercises discretion and judgment in the performance of the diagnostic exam.
  • Must have the ability to work well with others, acts as a team member. Ability to work independently and engage in critical thinking to improve the quality of care.
  • Maintains work habits consistent with hospital and department policies, reports unsafe conditions and incidents to the immediate supervisor and demonstrates safe work habits. Ensure proper function of equipment by proper usage and maintenance.
  • Good Communication skills are required. In addition to accepting feedback, asking questions and active communication with counterparts and all departments.
  • Communicate scheduling delays to patients, staff and families.
  • Ensures all emergency equipment and supplies are available and operational. Familiar with proper procedures for equipment failure.
  • Ability to schedule procedures /patient's, check in procedures, and familiar with downtime procedures and procedures for reporting and troubleshooting equipment failure.
  • Cleans and restocks Diagnostic Imaging as needed and conducts and maintains inventory.
  • Aids in the training of new personnel, students and physicians.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
  • Some College required.
  • Specialized (Completion of approved Ultrasound Program required beyond high school)
  • BSN preferred.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN).
  • Fetal Echo Certification required.
  • AHA BLS Certification required.
  • Nuchal Translucency Certification preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience required.
  • Florida State Radiation License is required if ARRT certified.
