Nemours Children's Health is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant (Full-Time), to join our team in Orlando, Florida.

Nemours Children's Hospital, Orlando, Florida, is the newest addition to the Nemours integrated healthcare system. Our 130-bed pediatric hospital also features the area's only 24-hour Emergency Department designed just for kids as well as outpatient pediatric clinics including several specialties previously unavailable in the region. The Pathologists' Assistant performs grossing and dissection of surgical tissue specimens, frozen sections, and other intraoperative consultations, assists and performs autopsies, assists in teaching dissection techniques to residents, fellows, and new employees. The Pathologists' assistant functions under the direction of a licensed and qualified pathologist.
  • Performs gross analysis and dissection of all surgical tissue types submitted to the Pathology Department under the direction of the pathologist. Describes specimens appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Assists in performance of autopsies including evisceration, gross dissection, and section submission for microscopic analysis.
  • Prepares frozen sections of surgical specimens for rapid microscopic examination by pathologist.
  • Assists with tissue procurement for research protocols.
  • Coordinates training of residents or medical students in surgical pathology as directed by pathologist.
  • Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time.
  • Assists in histology with accessioning, tissue disposition, and sample delivery. Processes and prepares tissue specimens for review by pathologist.

Job Requirements
  • Master of Science in a NAACLS accredited Pathologists' Assistant program is required. Active enrollment can be considered at manager's discretion but degree must be completed within 12 months of hire.
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years experience required.
  • Experience in a hospital pediatric pathology department preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Histotechnologist and clinical experience within an accredited Pathologists' Assistant program is accepted.
  • Florida License for Pathologists' Assistant and National Accreditation as Pathologists' Assistant required.
