Nemours is seeking an EMT Lead for our Critical Care Transport Team! Day position available with weekend and holiday requirements.

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of patients from referring hospitals of to other facilities and destinations. This includes the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle and being an assistance to the transport Registered Nurse or Respiratory Therapist teams. All direct care is provided under the EMT certification. Additional skills performed by the EMT are under the direct supervision of the transport team RN/RT and under Medical Command Officer direction.

The CCTT transports on average 130-140 calls a month. Ninety (90) percent of patients are transported by ambulance; the remaining patients are transported by flight. Patient placement includes specialty care units such as pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care, cardiac intensive care, emergency, and surgical units, as well as the general pediatric floors. In addition to performing interfacility transports, the CCTT staff assists with patient care and available resources in units throughout the hospital.

The Lead Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides safe and efficient transportation of patients from referring hospitals or to other facilities and destinations. Assists in the delivery of care based on family centered care principles in collaboration with other medical professionals. Accountable and responsible for the coordination and management of supplies and equipment in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Provides guidance, mentoring, and training to other EMT's

Position Responsibilities
  • Safe and efficient operation of the vehicle and assisting the transport Registered Nurse or Respiratory Therapist to set up equipment and therapies.
  • Duties performed by the EMT while aiding in patient care are under the direct supervision of the transport Team RN / RT and under the Medical Command Officer directions.
  • Assist with patient care technician roles and responsibilities throughout the hospital as assigned.
  • Deliver care in a non-judgmental and nondiscriminatory manner that is sensitive to and values diversity.
  • Participate in and support research studies, evidence-based practice projects, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain patient/family confidentiality and privacy within legal and regulatory parameters.
  • Attain knowledge and competence that reflect current practice & maintain evidence of competence and lifelong learning.
  • Contribute to a culture of safety by adhering to policy and procedures that demonstrate evidence-based practice.
  • Engage in self and peer evaluation according to standards for the profession, and associated regulatory agencies, taking action to improve practice.
  • Utilize appropriate resources to plan and provide care that is safe, effective, and fiscally responsible.
  • Adhere to the Nemours Standards of Behavior.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and training to other EMT's.
  • Monitor, schedule, and maintain repairs and maintenance for ambulance fleet as needed.

Position Requirements
  • High School Diploma
  • Completion, graduation, and certification from a Florida Department of Health approved EMT program or equivalent
  • Active Florida EMT prior to start date
  • EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Certificate) or approved equivalent
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
  • Valid Florida State Driver's License
  • Minimum of 2 years of driving experience in Emergency Medical Services capacity; 3+ preferred
  • Knowledge of vehicle operation and maintenance
