Description:

Nemours is seeking a Pediatric Audiologist Staff I to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Jacksonville, Florida.

Provides comprehensive audiometric pediatric services including hearing evaluations, patient examination, evaluation, intervention, documentation, patient/parent/caretaker education, communication and coordination of care with medical/clinical staff and outside agencies as appropriate with the guidelines designated by the department and Nemours Children's Hospital. Actively participates in departmental education activities to expand knowledge of patient populations and evidence-based practice.
  • Clinical responsibilities will be to administer age-appropriate audiological pediatric evaluations including middle ear analysis, otoacoustic emissions, VRA, CPA and traditional behavioral threshold evaluations in accordance with established protocols with appropriate counseling regarding evaluation results and recommendations for treatment, intervention, follow-up, and referral.
  • Clinical responsibilities include hearing aid evaluations, BAHA evaluations and electroacoustic/behavioral verification, follow-up, orientation, and counseling. Additional responsibilities include earmold impressions, modifications, troubleshooting, in-office repairs and recommending/fitting assistive listening devices
  • Interests in specialty areas within the Audiology discipline. Includes interests in vestibular assessments and cochlear implants. Specifically, pediatric experience with cochlear implant evaluations, selection, programming and dispensing. Would not be the primary function of this position but looking to transition qualified candidate into an active role within the Cochlear Implant program to help with expansion of the program.
  • Audiological monitoring of patients exposed to ototoxic drugs in hematology, oncology, and nephrology with appropriate follow-up. Adhere to state guidelines for monitoring newborns who are at risk for developing hearing loss due to birth or family history, etc.
  • Evaluates patients for hearing difficulties, impairments and makes appropriate recommendations to physicians, families, schools, and community agencies for follow-up care.
  • Independently provides and coordinates age-appropriate treatment plans. Consults with other services, families and outside agencies to recommend equipment, home or school modifications, therapy, transition of care etc.
  • Attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussion as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Maintain appropriate state licensure, certification and continuing education as required.
  • Maintains high professional standards of conduct and adheres to Customer Service Standards of Performance.
  • Completes timely documentation as required by departmental policy, JCAHO, and CARF standards.

Job Requirements
  • Doctorate Degree in Audiology or its equivalent from an accredited university required (Audiologists graduating prior to 2007 may hold a Master's Degree in Audiology).
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in clinical audiology, preferably in pediatrics, to include internship and externship placements.
  • Hold or be eligible for Florida State License to practice Audiology. State of Florida License to practice Audiology required upon hire.
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Familiarity with assessment scales and instrument, techniques of assessment and intervention with pediatric populations.
  • Member of professional specialty organizations (ASHA-mandatory, AAA, Florida Academy of Audiology etc.-optional).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
