Description:

Nemours is seeking an Anesthesia Technician (TEMP) FULL-TIME to join our Nemours Children's Hospital team in Orlando, Florida.

The temporary anesthesia technician serves as an integral member of the anesthesia patient care team. She/he assists the licensed anesthesia providers in various settings, performing duties under the direct supervision of a licensed anesthesia provider and /or Registered Nurse. This position provides support for surgical/procedural cases by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of patient equipment and anesthesia delivery systems before, during and after anesthesia. The anesthesia tech performs first level maintenance on anesthesia equipment. Cleans, disinfects, sends for sterilization, stocks, orders, and maintains the routine anesthesia equipment and supplies. The position performs as an unlicensed, trained, assistive person and completes technical duties as they pertain to anesthesia support.
  • Completes beginning of, end of case and/or between case turn over in an efficient manner. Cleans and maintains equipment (anesthesia machine, monitoring devices, transport monitors, cell salvage equipment, blood warmers/infusion pumps, central line cart, etc.)
  • Operates blood gas analyzer according to manufacturer recommendation and guidelines.
  • Calibrates and maintains the point-of-care testing equipment. Processes blood samples for arterial blood gas studies and clotting times. Documents the data and completes the quality assurance measures.
  • Assists with difficult intubations, providing necessary cart, equipment and support
  • Assists with invasive line preparation and monitoring
  • Anticipates the needs for additional equipment, supplies and/or instruments by assessing specific patient and anesthesiologist needs, utilizing critical thinking skills.
  • Assists the anesthesiologist in the transport of the lines and cables during movement/transport of the patient. Returns any OR transport monitoring equipment
  • Assists as needed with the pre-op transportation of the patient and initial positioning on the OR table and securing the safety strap. Ensures availability of oxygen and transport monitors.
  • Rotates, stores, and orders supplies for efficient operation of department
  • Retrieves needed blood and blood products from the blood bank.
  • Correctly handles and ensures appropriate labeling of blood specimens prior to transport to lab.
  • Works collaboratively to support health care team members throughout the intra-operative process.
  • Understands and performs role in emergency situations (i.e. code blue, CPR) Assists with emergency resuscitation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma required. (Up to 3 months of training beyond high school).
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in an ambulatory or acute care hospital or Surgical or Perioperative services required.
  • Valid American Heart Association BLS Certification required upon hire.
  • ACLS and/or PALS Certifications preferred.
  • National Certification as CER.A.T or CER.A.T.T. from the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians preferred.
