DESCRIPTIONMichael Baker is seeking a Chief Engineer to join the team in Jacksonville, FL! Under minimal supervision, the Chief Engineer provides technical expertise, leadership, and guidance to staff and departments across the Aviation practice for capture and delivery of all types of aviation projects, especially more complex, non-typical projects and programs. Responsibilities include:
Technical Leadership - Provides technical leadership on complex and/or strategic projects, including development of engineering methodology, design criteria, innovative design approaches, and value engineering.
- Serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) knowledgeable of industry trends, current criteria, and specifications developments; help identify new technologies, processes, and practices that may be adopted into future projects.
- Performs advanced technical analyses, calculations, and tasks as needed.
- For certain strategic aviation projects, Chief Engineer may hold positions of Project Manager, Deputy Project Manager, or Engineer of Record.
- Participates in National Federal and Aviation Practice conference calls.
- Participates primarily on Federal Aviation projects; however, may also participate in civilian aviation projects, as needed.
Industry Engagement - Participate actively in internal and external professional development activities such as technical committees for trade organizations and industry standards development efforts.
- Maintains awareness of technical developments and develops a professional profile through industry engagement and presentations to relevant conferences/events.
Quality and Staff Development - Serves as a key project resource interfacing with the clients, assists project managers with providing a high-quality product that meets the schedule and exceeds client satisfaction.
- Provides technical review of deliverables, as needed.
- Monitors QA/QC procedures related to aviation projects and recommends improvements as needed to better serve client requirements. Participates in regional QC/QA reviews/audits.
- Works in partnership with Department Managers to execute growth plans, hiring goals, pursuits, and staff development.
- Provides leadership and direction by mentoring staff on issues such as development of technical capabilities, scope management, and quality assurance.
- Collaborate with Department Managers and Project Managers for staffing assignments and execution.
- Provides input on Project Delivery staff performance to supervisor.
Business Development - Attend periodic marketing meetings.
- Assist with setting up meetings with specific clients to help with the capture of new projects.
- Assists Office Executives and Regional Practice Leads, as applicable, on major aviation pursuits, lending technical credibility/expertise to the pursuit team.
- Assists with preparation of scope of work and fee proposals - particularly related to technical approach sections.
- Act as Deputy PM on specific pursuits, transition this role to other staff as commitments below are met.
- Quality of work will be your marketing.
- Utilize professional relationships to help Department and Project Managers with identifying new projects and programs for our teams to pursue.
- Assist with the preparation of strategy for capturing new projects.
- Assist with preparation of technical approach and innovation for proposals.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Bachelors degree in Civil Engineer
- 10+ years aviation experience
