As a Senior Lead Infrastructure Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Payments Technology group, you exhibit both depth and breadth of knowledge regarding software, applications, and technical processes across multiple technical disciplines. You also have a specialization in a specific domain within infrastructure engineering to drive programs or initiatives consisting of multiple technologies and applications. This role will focus on embedding FinOps best practices into design and architecture review processes, ensuring cost efficiency is a core consideration from the outset and is a proactive strategy rather than a reactive effort. You will play a critical role in identifying optimization opportunities across on-prem and AWS infrastructure, ensuring we meet business requirements while maintaining cost-effectiveness.

Additionally, this role will explore how AI and emerging technologies can simplify cost management for software engineers and application owners, enabling faster, more automated, and more effective optimization through better tooling, reporting, and insights.

Job responsibilities

  • Define and implement the FinOps strategy for Payments, ensuring cost optimization becomes a core part of our engineering culture.
  • Partner with Application owners, Engineering, Architecture, Finance, and Product teams to analyze and optimize cloud and on-prem infrastructure costs without compromising performance or reliability.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities across AWS services, compute, storage, and databases while ensuring alignment with business requirements.
  • Develop and improve tooling, dashboards, and automation to provide real-time visibility into costs and drive data-driven decision-making.
  • Leverage AI and machine learning to streamline cost management, making it easier and faster for engineers and application owners to optimize their environments.
  • Drive execution and on-time delivery of cost saving initiatives, ensuring we meet our saving targets while maintaining operational excellence.
  • Establish governance frameworks to ensure cost efficiency is built into architectural decisions and operational processes.
  • Continuously evaluate and recommend best-in-class FinOps practices, tools, and methodologies to enhance Payments' financial and operational efficiency.
  • Applies deep technical expertise and problem-solving methodologies focused on analyzing complex data and systems, anticipating issues, and finding ways to mitigate risk
  • Works with other platforms to architect and implement changes required to resolve issues and modernize the organization and its technology processes
  • Be responsible for infrastructure engineering in accordance with business requirements

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on Infrastructure Engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
  • Experience with FinOps, including expertise in cost management, forecasting, and optimization strategies for cloud and on-prem infrastructure
  • Deep understanding of AWS services and pricing models, as well as on-prem infrastructure cost structures
  • Technical proficiency in infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.), automation, and cloud-native tooling
  • Knowledge of one or more areas of infrastructure engineering such as hardware, networking terminology, databases, storage engineering, deployment practices, integration, automation, scaling, resilience, or performance assessments
  • Adept in specific infrastructure technology and programming languages (e.g., Scripting, Python, etc.)
  • Deep technical knowledge across multiple domains
  • Deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure and multiple cloud technologies with the ability to operate in and migrate across public and private clouds

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Experience with AI, machine learning, and automation technologies to enhance FinOps capabilities
  • Ability to develop and present clear, actionable insights for engineers, application owners, and senior leadership
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and drive cost-conscious decision-making across teams
  • Exposure to managing budgets
