The Assistant Dockmaster serves as the ambassador for the marina and is the first person with whom a customer will interact. The Assistant Dockmaster is responsible for working with the Dockmaster to ensure the safe mooring of vessels, general operation of the docks, assisting boaters, and maintaining a safe and clean environment throughout the harbor and marina facilities, while also performing the essential duties of the dock hand. The Assistant Dockmaster is also the onsite Safety Coordinator, responsible for ensuring the property is in compliance with all governing bodies and regulatory agencies. This is a full-time position with benefits, and is expected to work weekends as the Manager on Duty for the property over the weekend.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide SHM members with the best experience possible
  • Greet all customers in a manner that expresses a kind, courteous and professional character
  • Help orient members and guests to the marina, facilities, and answer other commonly asked questions
  • Assist the dockmaster with the management of slip assignments and of boats within the marina, including management of all daily and monthly transient customers.
  • Complete all safety checks and inspections for both marinas and the Yacht Club, and meet all deadlines assigned to the regional Safety Coordinators.
  • Daily inspection and maintenance to provide a clean and safe facility, report all safety or maintenance concerns to the Facilities Manager.
  • First line of customer service for incoming boats.
  • Responsible for daily operations of marina docks.
  • Assist customers with general boating needs.
  • Complete boat pump outs on a regular basis.
  • Assist members fueling boats and complete any fuel/retail sales in the ship store.
  • Maintain and clean restrooms, docks, walkways, grounds and other areas designated by management
  • Ensure docks and equipment are operational at all times.
  • Comply with OSHA regulations, environmental regulations, and adhere to all site rules and expectations
  • Ensures that boaters observe all marina rules and regulations.
  • Availability to work overtime when required.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.

Safety and Environmental Responsibilities

  • Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area.
  • Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately.

Technical and Physical Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 2-5 years’ marina experience preferred
  • Ability to work safely around the water
  • Must be able to swim
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Basic boat handling skills preferred
  • Knowledge of dock construction and repair preferred
  • Knowledge of basic power tools preferred
  • Any skills considered standard that a Assistant Dockmaster should possess
