GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our accounts receivable processes. This position involves analyzing accounts receivable transactions to guarantee proper application of incoming payments and credit memos, as well as maintaining and reconciling the accounts receivable ledger. The Staff Accountant prepares internal reports, including those on delinquent accounts, and analyzes trends in receipts to recommend improvements to existing procedures. Additionally, the role includes responding to customer inquiries, managing the Passenger Facility Charge remittance in compliance with federal regulations, and performing bank reconciliations and journal entries.

Compensation: $70, 000/annual

FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

WORKPLACE TYPE: This hybrid position requires you to work at least three (3) days or more on-site in the office base on business needs.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Analyze accounts receivable transactions to ensure accurate application of incoming payments and credit memos.
  • Maintain and reconcile the accounts receivables ledger, preparing internal reports, including delinquent account reports.
  • Review, enter, and reconcile all incoming payments efficiently.
  • Analyze trends in receipts and recommend improvements to accounts receivable procedures.
  • Respond to customer inquiries regarding payments and provide support to the accounts receivable team.
  • Reconcile and enter the Passenger Facility Charge remittance to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and monthly journal entries to accurately record miscellaneous revenue.
  • Support the finance department with various tasks, including records management and additional accounting duties.
  • Assist with collections procedures and account reconciliations as needed.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required as an essential function of the position.

REQUIRED FOR ALL HCAA JOBS

  • In the event of an emergency or disaster that impacts the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority (HCAA), an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department or the HCAA Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Such assignments may be before, during, or after the emergency/disaster.
  • Complies with all HCAA Policies, Procedures, and Standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS)

· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.

· Two (2) years of experience as a professional accountant

· Or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below.

· Must possess a valid, current Florida Class E Driver License when operating an Authority vehicle or driving on behalf of the Authority.

  • Knowledge of principles and accepted practices regarding fiscal and accounting books, records, and accounts.
  • Knowledge of personal computers using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and various accounting software. Ideally will have experience with Oracle EBS.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and basic accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of accounts receivable functions and best practices.
  • Ability to prepare bank deposits by accurately identifying accounts and transferring funds.
  • Ability to collect, organize and evaluate data and to develop logical conclusions.
  • Ability to schedule, monitor, and review financial activities from various sources.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments and employees.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and apply job-related rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to develop computer-based spreadsheets, graphs, summaries, and reports.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to create efficiencies and improve processes
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Office Suite skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
