Description:

Under the general direction of the Systems Baggage Operations Supervisor, the Systems Baggage Operator is responsible for maintaining the efficiency of the airport baggage system by ensuring it is clear of blockages and functioning properly. This role involves clearing baggage jams according to safety protocols, performing accurate inspections for missing baggage, and resolving any issues within the baggage handling system. Additionally, the position includes implementing safety standards, driving golf carts on the ramp, and assisting skilled trades such as electricians, plumbers, and HVAC mechanics with their tasks, ensuring a collaborative and effective maintenance environment.

This position requires flexibility to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the demands of our 24/7 operations.

Requires availability for emergency call-in.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Clear baggage jams in the airport baggage system while adhering to established safety protocols and procedures.
  • Perform accurate inspections for missing baggage and resolve issues within the baggage handling system.
  • Monitor and maintain the operational efficiency of the baggage system, ensuring it is free from blockages.
  • Operate conveyor belts and other equipment for the movement of baggage and cargo.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and documentation related to baggage handling procedures.
  • Ensure honest practices in the handling of customers' baggage and loads, maintaining a high level of integrity.
  • Implement safety procedures and standards to guarantee the safe handling of passenger baggage.
  • Drive golf carts on the ramp to transport baggage and equipment as needed.
  • Clean work sites upon completion of tasks to maintain a safe and organized environment.
  • Assist electricians with the installation and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, and related equipment.
  • Collaborate with equipment mechanics to repair and maintain gasoline and diesel-operated vehicles and related mechanical components.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required as an essential function of the position.

REQUIRED FOR ALL HCAA JOBS

  • In the event of an emergency or disaster that impacts the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority (HCAA), an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department or the HCAA Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Such assignments may be before, during, or after the emergency/disaster.
  • Complies with all HCAA Policies, Procedures, and Standards.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS)

· High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • One (1) year of trade experience.

· Or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

· Must possess a valid Florida Driver License.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of safety procedures and safety equipment relevant to baggage handling and maintenance tasks.
  • Knowledge of procedures and techniques used in multiple construction trades to support maintenance operations.
  • Working knowledge of the construction and maintenance practices for various types of buildings and facilities, particularly in an airport setting.
  • Skill in using hand tools and electrical/gas-operated equipment effectively in maintenance tasks.
  • Skill in operating conveyor belts and other airport equipment for the efficient movement of baggage and cargo.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to baggage handling systems effectively and promptly.
  • Ability to perform inspections and accurately assess the condition of baggage handling equipment and systems.
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks to ensure timely completion of maintenance and repairs.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and records of maintenance activities and issues encountered.
  • Basic computer skills to perform data entry, generate reports, and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings related to maintenance tasks and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others within and outside the Authority.
  • Ability to handle restricted, sensitive, and confidential information.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service, serve the public, and represent the Authority with courtesy and professionalism.
