Description:

The Financial Counselor is responsible for providing patients with a positive financial experience by helping them navigate and understand potential financial responsibility while assisting with any and all avenues of financial assistance available to them. Financial Counselors are the patient's point of contact for financial assistance questions.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts patient financial interviews to assist with the resolution of a patient’s account, and to ensure compliance with hospital financial resolution policies.
  • Advises and counsels patients and guarantors as to options, responsibilities and procedures with regards to payment for care.
  • Works with patients to identify the most appropriate account resolution.
  • Assists patients with financial assistance applications as needed, closing/addressing open MSP’s & COB’s with insurance, as appropriate.
  • Collects copay, deductible and/or a deposit on all applicable patients prior to admission, during admit, and/or at discharge.
  • Acts as a liaison with Admissions, Registration, Nurse Liaisons’, Case Management, and other departments of the hospital, physician offices, and business office.
  • Counsel patients on out of pocket liabilities. Collect deductibles, pre-payments, and outstanding balances following established collection procedures; or alternatively, create a payment plan with the patient and document the agreement appropriately.
  • In addition, will undertake special projects/duties as directed by management.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required with minimum two or more year’s healthcare/medical business office experience.
  • Associates degree preferred in Healthcare Administration or related field.
  • Knowledge of insurance benefits.
  • Previous financial counseling/collection experience preferred.
  • Must have strong communication skills and be able to handle stressful, uncomfortable situations.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in communication and problem solving skills.
  • EXCEL spreadsheet experience with above average proficiency.
  • Knowledge of WORD sufficient to write letters to patients and insurance companies in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to communicate and work as a team with other staff members.

Location: Onsite between both Inpatient Hospitals, Brooks Bartram Inpatient and Brooks University Inpatient

Hours: Full-time, day-time hours, Monday - Friday
