Job Description
Boise Cascade Company is hiring a Security Guard I in Havana, FL. This is a full-time position.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Daily Responsibilities
- Picks up the trash bags from the front office by 9 PM
- Cleans out the cigarette butt barrels, change trash bags at scales, walkway and employee parking lot each Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday;
- Checks the inventory of PPE at the beginning of the shift to ensure there is an adequate supply for the on-coming shifts
- Responds to all codes in a timely manner and fills out an incident report if needed
- Delivers messages to supervisors
- Issues PPE to employees at shift changes
- Provides fire watch after welding on mill holidays as needed
- Responds to calls from maintenance when the lockout of sprinkler system shut-off valves are being removed
- Monitors sprinkler system drain lines in winter to prevent freezing
- Reports neighbor’s complaints of noise or smoke to management
- Follows established procedures for contacting chip hauling company when the red light comes on at the chip bin
- Admits chip trucks to mill and weighs out chip trucks
- Issues fuel at fuel area and records in the log when called
- Ensures all visitors and contractors have the appropriate insurance, PPE, and passes prior to admitting them to the mill
- Checks materials released at the security gate when a contractor or employee fills out a materials release before they go out the gate
- Issues supplies to millwrights from supply room upon request
- Checks out maintenance forklift and Manlift upon request and locks up when the requester is done with it
- Checks out Confined Space equipment and gas-testing meter to Supervisors, turns on and calibrate meter at the guard shack; when entry is finished, ensures equipment is returned to guard shack; documents in security log
- Checks the security truck (fluid level, leaks, tires, and cleanliness) at the beginning of the shift and records the results on the Truck Checklist
- Briefs the oncoming Security Guard
- Completes all the required paperwork before the end of the shift
- Immediately notifies HR Manager, Safety Coordinator and Plant Manager of all recordable injuries
- Administers first aid; transports employees to doctor/hospital/home in security truck when necessary
- Completes an incident report for all injuries, first aid cases, and near misses; makes copies and put in the Department Head, Plant Manager, HR Manager and Safety Coordinator’s mailboxes in the front office
- Logs all activities and calls on the security log
- Inspects areas around completed hot work where permits are issued and picks-up permits on the last walkthrough of the shift
- Picks up trash/debris around the fence line of the plant (including the front office area and outside the gate at the scales)
- Monitors storm water holding pond during rain events to make sure no discharge occurs
- Fills in for other Security Guards as needed
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Weekly Responsibilities
- Disinfects first aid table with 10% bleach solution every Wednesday
- Empties trash cans in the break room on weekends
- Vacuums interior of Security truck on Saturday
- Monitors eye-wash stations to ensure they are clean and in good working order each Monday
- Maintains maintenance records for pick-up truck and schedules routine maintenance as needed (4)
Yearly Responsibilities
- Assists with annual hearing tests for employees (normally in July)
Monitors storm water holding pond during rain events to make sure no discharge occurs
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Valid state driver’s license and clean driving record
- Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Able to write routine reports and correspondence
- Able to speak effectively with fellow employees and Supervisors
- Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fraction, and decimals
- Able to understand production numbers, goals, and quotas
- Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
