Overview

We are seeking a Public Information Specialist to support public outreach initiatives in Lake City, FL. This role works closely with clients and project teams to assist in delivering effective public relations, communications, and community engagement programs.

Reporting to a Technical Manager, this position supports public affairs efforts including public information, government affairs, media relations, website maintenance, and community outreach for client projects.

Your Role

  • Support development of public information materials, including press releases, newsletters, fact sheets, reports, presentations, and public service announcements.
  • Coordinate and support logistics for public outreach events such as public meetings, hearings, open houses, groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, and site tours.
  • Assist with facilitation and coordination of public meetings and community engagement activities.
  • Maintain and update project websites, photo galleries, and databases; support basic data analysis and reporting.
  • Assist in the design and production of project collateral, including displays, brochures, newsletters, maps, and fact sheets.
  • Capture and organize digital photography for project documentation and public-facing materials.
  • Monitor media coverage and track news related to client projects, including compiling clips and reports.
  • Coordinate with internal project teams and support general administrative and project coordination activities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Represent the organization professionally in client and community interactions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with excellent verbal communication ability.
  • Internship or prior experience in a consulting or communications-related environment preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, coordinate event logistics, and support project teams effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders, including the public, media, and government officials.
  • Comfortable working both independently and within a team environment.
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications; familiarity with web design (e.g., Dreamweaver or similar) and graphic design tools (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, Publisher) is a plus.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills are highly desirable.
  • Valid driver’s license required; ability to travel locally as needed.

Additional information

Expected compensation range is between $55, 000 - $70, 000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
