JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Process Development Engineer to join our team focused on the development of high-performance pump lasers for use in optical amplifiers. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, and refining processes for new products. This role spans hand on demonstration of feasibility during the prototype phase through to introduction into remote manufacturing sites and subsequent troubleshooting.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Collaborate with design engineers to develop, implement, and refine processes for new products.
  • Provide feedback on design for manufacturability, influencing design decisions to enable an optimized production process
  • Use hands-on skills to generate prototype and experimental parts.
  • Prime the development of optical alignment processes.
  • Develop initial process documentation, process flows and control plans.
  • Prime initial PFMEA and manufacturability assessment
  • Work with cross functional teams to introduce automation where applicable.
  • Work closely with the NPI teams in manufacturing locations to ensure processes are robustly implemented.
  • Analyse process data to identify trends, variations, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prime design of experiments (DOE) to optimise and troubleshoot process issues.
  • Provide technical support and training to manufacturing process teams.
  • Explore new technologies, materials and techniques relevant to pump assembly and alignment.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Physics, Material Science, or a related field or equivalent
  • 9 years proven experience in process development for optical components or related fields.
  • Good understanding of fibre processing, package assembly and alignment techniques
  • Proficient in data analysis, statistical process control (SPC)
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping equipment and analysis techniques
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-site environment.
