Description:

The Ultrasound Supervisor will perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures under the direction of a physician with established methods and procedures and is responsible for patient care, quality control and improvement activities, proper operation of all general diagnostic ultrasound equipment and direct supervision of ultrasound technologists. The Ultrasound Supervisor will report to the Director of Operations, Radiology.

The Ultrasound Supervisor will participate in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate The Ultrasound Supervisor will assist in training staff on using Ultrasound systems and help with maintaining ACR accreditation for Ultrasound systems.

This role is estimated to spend at least 70% clinical as a Ultrasound Technologist and the other duties will be performing supervisor duties as assigned.
  • Participates in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations, and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation.
  • Responsible for AIDET interactions and provides accurate preparation instructions to patient/family with the ability to answer pertinent procedural questions. Responsible for coordinating and resolving medical imaging patient issues including scheduling issues.
  • Knowledge of U/S protocols, and a working knowledge of all U/S equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of routine and specialized U/S imaging protocols. Is proficient in performing studies in all areas of U/S.
  • In conjunction with the radiology leadership team, supports development and achievement of organizational goals and objectives.
  • Works to identify and solve operational problems, reduce costs, improve efficiency, and continually improve overall operation of U/S.
  • Assists with, technologist schedules, including weekdays, weekends, and holiday rotation. Manages staff daily assignments including ancillary site coverage.
  • Super User for PACS and monitors in progress worklist to assure all images transfer correctly and are read in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with Biomed to troubleshoot equipment and submit tickets for repair. Ensures proper function of equipment by proper usage and maintenance. Reports unsafe conditions and incidents.
  • Promotes and models appropriate open and effective communication among staff, patients, and providers.
  • Maintains constructive, positive working relationships with other units and support staff. Shares responsibility for ensuring a safe environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff.
  • In conjunction with Radiology Management, ensures new technologists receive adequate and appropriate training, education, and clinical support during orientation. Providing training manual and checklists.
  • Provides feedback on staff members as requested by Manager for annual performance evaluation process, to include satellite personnel.
  • Demonstrates an expert knowledge of ultrasound equipment & safety, expert imaging skills and equipment trouble-shooting skills, analyzing and recording equipment and other equipment utilized in the U/S department.
  • Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned by associates' manager.
    • Associate Degree is required; Bachelor Degree is preferred
    • ARDMS Registered is required.
    • DE State License is required.

    American Heart Association's Basic Life Support (BLS) is required within 30 days of hire.
    • Minimum 3 years Ultrasound Technologist experience is required; 5+ is preferred.

    Supervisory/Management experience is preferred.
