Description:

Nemours Children's Health, Delaware is seeking an accomplished hospice and palliative medicine pediatrician to become the new Division Chief of Palliative Medicine.

This Chief will lead a collaborative interdisciplinary team within the Department of Pediatrics consisting of 2 dedicated Palliative Care physicians, a bereavement counselor, social worker, an APP as well as a child life specialist. The Division provides inpatient, ambulatory, and home hospice oversight care and is home to a well-established and well-respected pediatric hospice and palliative medicine fellowship. A faculty appointment, consistent with level of academic achievement, will be provided at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. The Chief will report to the Chair of Pediatrics.

The Division Chief of Palliative Medicine will be instrumental in leading and expanding the current program across all missions. They will be responsible for driving the strategic direction of the division, building on a strong foundation and history. They will enhance current research and academic productivity and grow the program through the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty. This leader should have a robust track record of both clinical and academic success as well as proven leadership skills to collaborate and build a successful interdisciplinary patient-centered program. An established track record of change leadership and program development is preferred. Experience with donor development to support the continued growth of the endowed program is also preferred.

Responsibilities include:
  • Optimization of clinical services
  • Fiscal stewardship and operational management
  • Recruitment and retention of well trained, qualified, and diverse professionals
  • Enhancement of scholarly activity, research, and attainment of external funding including philanthropy
  • Support of clinical training and education for medical students, interns, residents, and fellows

Professional Qualifications/Experience:
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing and implementing culturally relevant evidence-based care models and outcomes to ensure delivery of high-quality, cost-effective healthcare using quality measures and performance improvement
  • Evidence of scholarly activity, including publications and/or peer-reviewed research funding
  • Active involvement with national or regional professional societies
  • Experience in working with underserved populations, including those with economic, health, cultural and educational disparities
  • Demonstration of a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate medical education
  • Experience in mentorship and career development of trainees and junior faculty members
