Job Description Step into Your New Role Kleinfelder is seeking an Area Manager to lead our Delaware business sector. As part of Kleinfelder’s East Division Business Unit, the Delaware area business sector consists of approximately 190 professionals operating out of offices located in Dover and New Castle DE. Our team offers a wide range of A/E services including civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, transportation engineering, land surveying, and construction management/inspection. We currently work for a broad range of clients in the private and public sectors throughout Delaware.
Partnering with the East Division leadership and leveraging Kleinfelder’s client/employee/profit operational model, the successful candidate will provide overall leadership to ensure the Area meets its revenue, sales, client account management, talent management, safety, and profitability objectives.
The ideal candidate will be based in one of our offices in the Area.
Key responsibilities include: Business Development
- Leads development and implementation of strategic sales plan to position the Area for sustainable sales and revenue growth.
- Possesses local market knowledge and ensures we are taking advantage of available opportunities
- Identifies and attracts new clients and opportunities to KLF
- Develops and maintains relationships for key clients and teaming partners in the Area
- Coaches sales team to ensure capture planning and positioning are effective
- Leads GO/NO GO process for Area
Planning & Operations
- Develops annual sales and operations business plan
- Ensures client satisfaction through engagement with service providers and clients
- Drives exceptional business and project management practices
- Drives the quality of the work product through collaboration with technical leadership in the Area and across the Company
- Promotes the safety of employees through effective execution of Company safety practices including personal involvement in stewardship
- Leverages the company systems, processes, corporate personnel and other resources to create efficiency and business discipline
Talent Acquisition and Management
- Actively works to recruit, hire and retain high performers
- Provides a safe, challenging and rewarding environment for employees
- Invests time and resources into building the capabilities of team members
Organizational Leadership
- Communicates the future (vision) effectively to employees
- Inspires the team by connecting each of them to the objectives of the area and/or Division
- Builds trust and loyalty by ensuring that each employee is getting advocacy, clear purpose and opportunities to grow
- Creates individual and shared accountability for results
- Communicates effectively throughout the entire business unit and with peers across the Company
Prior Work Experience
- A minimum of fifteen years’ experience in an engineering consulting firm or related professional service business
- A minimum of ten years of managing a P& L for a business of 100+ professionals.
- Demonstrated success in managing the delivery of engineering consulting services
- Past successful work experience in project management, client management, and technical leader roles
Education/Certification
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related field required. Master’s/MBA degree or equivalent preferred
- Professional registration preferred
