Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Platform R& D Chemist to join our Specialty Additives business unit at our Wilmington DE research center. You will be responsible for supporting new product development and application projects within specialty additives business unit. This position will report to the Global Technology Lead of recently launched Ashland Technology Platforms.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support the evaluation of Ashland’s innovative platform technologies in Industrial applications.
  • Responsible to execute experiments, generate reliable confident data, and independently draw conclusions
  • Demonstrates competence in problem solving methods and basic data analyses
  • Work in multiple projects at a time, and carry out formulation, application and characterization work independently to achieve targets
  • Communicate test results effectively to project team members
  • Improve capabilities through building collaborative relationships and utilizing positive communication with others
  • Participate actively in group safety related activities and safety programs
  • Identify testing/ formulation issues and bring new ideas, recommendations to resolve these issues
  • Completes assigned technical project- related work with limited supervision
  • Maintain up-to-date lab notebooks and appropriate records


In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

  • BS with 1-3 years of specialty chemical industrial experience with coatings formulation, testing, and evaluation methodologies
  • Learning mindset with good scientific and problem-solving skills.
  • Have strength in experimentation, hands-on skills set, and insightful data analysis
  • Have experience working with multicultural and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Be authorized to work in the United States


The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:

  • MS degree in polymer science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related discipline
  • 2+ years of specialty chemical industrial experience with coatings additives & formulations, testing, and evaluation methodologies
  • Strong written, oral presentation, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of polymers and an understanding of rheology is desirable
