The Global AI and Data Policy Office is tasked with the firm's strategy for policy, engagements, and leadership on artificial intelligence (AI) and data policy. In this role, you will spearhead the firm's AI and data policy strategy in the U.S., influencing policy at Federal, Congressional, state, and local levels. This cross-functional role involves close collaboration with the Chief Data and Analytics Office and other global functions, leveraging key relationships to promote a national AI and data strategy. You will liaise with partners across the firm to develop key messages and advocacy objectives, reporting to the Global AI and Data Policy team leadership. Your work will be crucial in shaping U.S. AI and data policy, working closely with regional leadership in Global Government Relations.
As a U.S. AI & Data Policy Director within the Global AI and Data Policy Office, you will be responsible for leading and managing the company's policy advocacy, engagement, and strategy on AI and data issues across the United States. Your role will encompass strategic oversight and execution of our U.S.-based AI and data policy advocacy strategy at Federal, Congressional, state, and local levels, in alignment with our firmwide AI and data policy strategy and in support of key business and corporate responsibility objectives. This cross-functional role will require close collaboration with the firm's central Chief Data and Analytics Office and related business teams, leveraging key relationships across Global Government Relations, Corporate Responsibility, and several other global functions to promote a national strategy for AI and data issues.
Job Responsibilities- Work closely with relevant team and business leadership, oversee and execute the firm's strategy on public policy advocacy and engagement on AI and data related matters.
- Provide internal leadership, expertise, and analysis on U.S.-based AI and data policy developments, political environment and dynamics, and related opportunities and headwinds.
- Engage with Federal, state, and local public policymakers, regulators, and lawmakers on AI and data issues, including with stakeholders such as the White House and Federal agencies, Congress, state governors offices, attorneys general, and mayoral offices. Partner closely with internal teams, including JPMC's Federal and State and Local Government Relations teams and extended Government Relations colleagues, to inform the firm's strategy and advocacy approach to AI, data, and related issues in the U.S.
- Coordinate closely with colleagues in regulatory affairs on financial sector regulatory agency interactions, education, consultations, and policy development and advocacy for AI and data issues in the U.S.
- Work with part of a global team to set a global strategy for AI and data issues on behalf of JPMC, with an interest in contributing to a cohesive overall advocacy strategy supporting key business priorities for the firm.
- Work closely with key internal technology, product, governance and controls, legal, and other counterparts to ensure policy advocacy is informed by business goals, and vis versa.
- Spearhead and conduct proactive education campaigns to support enhanced understanding among public policymakers, regulators, legislators, and other government officials on AI and data issues.
- Collaborate with team members and colleagues in Corporate Responsibility to leverage JPMC's relationships with third parties and research, partnership, and advocacy resources in support of a U.S. AI and data policy strategy.
- Ensure consistent messaging and coordination across internal teams to support the firm's AI, data, and technology policy objectives.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills- Minimum of 10 years of experience in policy advocacy, government relations, or a related role, with a focus on AI, data, and technology policy.
- Strong understanding of AI/data products, governance and public policy, and related issues, including regulatory and social impact considerations.
- Proven track record of managing strategic relationships with external stakeholders, including elected and public agency officials; trade associations; industry coalitions; research institutions; and civil society organizations.
- Strong internal stakeholder management experience, including in building consensus inside of large organizations, working in a highly cross-functional environment, and coordinating work across diverse internal teams to drive results.
- Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse audiences and build consensus.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and develop innovative solutions to complex policy challenges.
- Experience communicating with senior executives and senior external stakeholders, including senior government officials.
- A creative, collegial, and flexible mindset, and an interest in being an early contributor to a new and growing team.
- Mastery of core Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Domestic travel as needed
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills- BS / BA degree or equivalent experience.
- Strong network of leaders across Federal, Congressional, and state and local environments on AI policy issues.
