The Payroll Director will lead expense reporting and payroll administration across multiple states and jurisdictions ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing. Design processes and utilize systems and third-party providers to create a scalable operating environment to support the company’s growth and continuously improve the payroll function. Partner with Finance, Technology, Compliance, and key groups within Human Resources to support seamless cross-functional administration. Lead a team of payroll professionals and foster a positive employee experience with all payroll interactions.

Essential Functions for this role include:

Payroll Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Serve as the payroll and expense reporting operations leader managing a team of professionals.
  • Focus on continuous process improvement to enhance payroll operations and governance.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure payroll obligations and statutory requirements are met.
  • Leverage industry best practices, and stay up to date on changes in payroll-related legislation to maintain compliance.

Payroll Processing

  • Direct timely and accurate bi-weekly and periodic off-cycle payroll processing using Workday that is compliant with Federal and State laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage overall reporting, tax filings, and other funding regulations connected to payroll.
  • Oversee timely and accurate filling and remittance of federal, state and local taxes, and employees' deductions, and benefits.
  • Oversee and lead payroll-related audits.

Payroll System & Vendor Management

  • Serve as the Workday payroll expert and develop and implement payroll operating procedures and processes to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Lead payroll system maintenance, enhancements, and technology implementations
  • Partner with stakeholders to develop and implement integration with payroll systems to support accuracy and efficiency.
  • Manage the third-party payroll vendor relationship with a focus on meeting the company’s service-level expectations.

If you have the following skills, we encourage you to apply:

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of payroll experience, including multi-state payroll administration
  • Extensive experience processing payroll using Workday
  • Working knowledge of individual tax law
  • Experience in the financial services industry (e.g., mutual funds, retirement plan administration, insurance, banking), preferred
  • Workday payroll implementation experience, a plus
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), preferred
