SUMMARY OF POSITION:
A Machinist II must have experience working with a variety of machines to cut, shape, and form metal components to precise specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of metal properties, machining techniques, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in Setup and Operation: Set up and operate a variety of machine tools including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC equipment to produce metal parts and tools.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine machining operations.
- Precision Machining: Perform precision machining operations to create sheet metal parts and components, ensuring accuracy and quality.
- Tool Maintenance: Maintain and repair machine tools and equipment, performing routine maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
- Maintain necessary production logs and records with accuracy.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Report any safety concerns or incidents to the supervisor.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineers and other team members to resolve technical issues and improve manufacturing processes.
- Cross train with other departments
- All other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a machinist, preferably in a sheet metal fabrication environment.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or apprenticeship in machining is preferred.
SKILLS:
- Proficient in the setup and operation of various machine tools.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Excellent precision and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of metal properties and machining techniques.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Basic computer skills for CNC programming and documentation.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 35 pounds, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with CNC programming and operation.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software.
SCOPE:
This position is responsible for producing quality work within the Machine Shop and work with limited supervision and direction.
