The People Safety Manager is a pivotal role in integrating safety into the organisation's broader wellbeing strategy, ensuring full compliance with health and safety legislation, industry standards and accreditations. Oversee the development, implementation and continuous improvement of safety policies, procedures and practises to ensure the safety and protection of employees across the organisation.

Subject matter expert and key partner to operational, audit and risk, estates, wellbeing and people teams, to lead and proactively manage safety risk, critical incidents, safety standards and accreditations and effectively embed audit recommendations.

Foster external networks and partnerships to stay at the forefront of safety best practice and ensure the wider wellbeing team and relevant stakeholders are kept updated and policies are aligned.

  • Oversee the management of safety policies and procedures, ensuring full compliance with health and safety legislation, industry standards and accreditations to mitigate risks to employee safety. Remain updated on changes in legal and regulatory requirements and update policies accordingly.
  • Oversee continuous improvement of ISO safety accreditation ISO45001. The primary contact for accreditation audits, ensuring the organisation meets all requirements for certification and compliance. Collaborate cross functionally to ensure safety management processes align with standards and are integrated into daily operations.
  • Organisational safety lead for critical incidents, including emergencies and serious accidents. Develop and maintain a critical incident response plan, ensuring the organisation is prepared for emergencies. Lead post-incident investigations to identify root causes, implement corrective actions and update safety protocols accordingly. Ensure effective resources for managers and employees on emergency response and critical incident management.
  • Subject matter expert and key business partner to leaders and operational colleagues to ensure safety frameworks and guidance are effectively embedded across the organisation and drive consistent and safe working practises. Safety lead for new bid onsite risk assessments and implementation.
  • Lead and manage the People Safety team, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful execution of all safety operational activity, reporting and safeguarding of employees.
  • Own and manage safety technology platforms, ensuring effective use and continuous improvement for reporting, data accuracy and user adoption. Analyse health, safety and wellbeing data to provide actionable insights and support decision making. Identify opportunities where technology can streamline processes and improve outcomes.
  • Design and implement safety initiatives that align with the organisational wellbeing and growth strategy and reflects our diverse colleague groups. Position safety as a key pillar of the wellbeing framework, ensuring physical, mental and financial health are supported through risk management and compliance. Collaborate with people teams to embed safety into broader people strategies and initiatives. Develop resource, content and training that engages and instils a safety culture, ensuring managers are equipped to promote safety within their teams.

Qualifications & Experience

• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Health and Safety qualification

• Membership of the Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH)

• Strong technical knowledge of health and safety legislation, accreditations and application to a business setting

• Demonstrable experience in a similar senior role, delivering the safety services strategy and leading health and safety services in a well-established, multi-site organisation

• Expertise in identifying, mitigating and managing risks within legal compliance

• Experience of health and safety technology platforms, data and tools

• Strong project management skills and ability to deliver results in a collaborative environment

• Evidenced experience of embedding a safety culture

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and able to engage with individuals at all levels

• Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives, working cross functionally to deliver positive outcomes

• Experience in integrating health and safety initiatives within a wellbeing framework.
