EDUCATION (must be required for position), LICENSE, CERTIFICATION and EXPERIENCE:
1. Education High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
2. Licenses Current Medical Assistant Certification and/or Registration required through an accredited organization (i.e. AMT, AAMA, NHA, etc.) within 12 months of hire.
3. Certifications CPR/BLS Certification that may be obtained during the apprenticeship.
4. Experience Preferred minimum of one year experience or related education.
REQUIRED SCREENINGS:
1. Drug Screen
2. Physical Assessment
3. Two-step Tuberculosis screen
4. Background check (Criminal, Civil, Educational, Previous Employment, etc.)
5. Driver Record screen (positions requiring on-the-job driving)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Checks schedule each day to confirm work day schedule (schedules are subject to change).
2. Reliable and punctual attendance is essential; expected to be at job as scheduled each scheduled day.
3. Communicate necessary information to others as appropriate.
4. Accurately and truthfully complete patient records in a timely manner.
5. Work harmoniously with Physician and Clerical staff to meet all patient needs.
6. Perform patient check in, including obtaining and recording vital signs, height, weight, chief complaint, brief relevant history including pain status, allergies, current medication and other pertinent information for specific ages groups.
7. Prepare patients for examination/procedure, as appropriate. Provide support and comfort to patients and families during clinic visits and procedures as needed; including chaperoning during sensitive examinations.
8. Assist providers with procedures including those requiring aseptic and sterile technique.
9. Administer medications and immunizations orally, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, intradermally and by inhalation as ordered by the provider, asking for assistance from credentialed medical staff if unfamiliar with medication or procedure.
10. Review medical records for an up-to-date problem list including patient reported medication, allergies, and diagnoses that are documented by physicians or providers.
11. Alert credentialed medical staff of patient’s/family’s questions or issues related to medication administration.
12. Alerts credentialed medical staff to address all patient order entries.
13. Provide emergency care to patients when necessary using basic life support and automated defibrillator equipment, maintaining basic CPR certification.
14. Demonstrate the ability and skill to provide medical assistance to patients at the direction of the Physician and within scope of practice as it applies to medical training.
15. Demonstrate proficiency in use of the computer for all aspects of patient care and documentation.
16. May carry out therapeutic measures under the direction of the Physician (such as changes of bandages, suture removal, splint application, and/or application of heat or cold, etc.)
17. Assist with transporting patient, within the facility, for x-ray, CT and/or lab services. Will assist with transporting patient to and from patient’s vehicle or patients designed method of transportation.
18. Assist with transfers or admissions to other physicians or facilities.
19. Shall ensure that all continuing education requirements and preventive medicine changes are up to date which shall include but not be limited to, vaccines (adult and pediatric), mammogram, PAP, colonoscopy and any other changes in preventive patient needs.
20. Works collaboratively with clinic staff on programs to improve patient outcomes.
21. Provide patient education as directed by the physician. Refer patients who require further teaching interventions to a credentialed medical staff member.
22. Complete daily routine assignments.
23. Assist with coordination of work with Clinical Nurse Manager/Clinical Staff Manager for follow up on missed appointments, reminder calls, lost toe care calls, and high risk referrals. Track abnormal PAPS and mammograms using 121 and ensure proper patient follow up and referrals as assigned by the Clinical Nurse Manger/Clinical Staff Manager.
24. Serve as back up for clinical team members as needed including vacations, illnesses, lunches, etc.
25. Assist with quality measures, including maintenance and recording of required daily equipment checks, CLIA requirements and calibration of equipment as needed in clinics where this is required.
26. Assist with quality improvement projects.
27. Complete all classroom and clinical coursework with a passing grade.
28. Upon completion of all classroom and clinical coursework, pass the required certification exam.
29. Other job related duties as assigned.
GENERAL DUTIES:
1. Maintains a standard level of professionalism with patients, public and colleagues.
2. Communicate necessary information to others as appropriate.
3. Maintain clean and orderly utility rooms, linens, etc., at all times.
4. Clean and care for equipment and utensils.
5. Maintain a sanitary environment in exam rooms, restocking medical supplies as needed for patient care.
6. Ensure all supplies are up to date and replace expired materials as necessary.
7. Responds to all inquiries professionally preserving confidentiality.
8. Positive and professional conduct through both verbal and non-verbal communication.
9. Maintains patient/resident/employee privacy and confidentiality at all times.
10. Attend staff meetings and in-service education.
11. Practice effective interpersonal skills and work productively as a member of a team.
12. Allow patients the opportunity to be involved in decision-making as appropriate.
13. Assist with and/or performs routine duties that do not require a specific professional license. (i.e. fax insurance companies, medical records, etc.)
14. Assist in ordering supplies and equipment as needed for various outpatient clinics.
Wage Starts at $18.00
