Position Title: Senior Operational Excellence Manager

External Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Operational Excellence Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and driving Operational Excellence initiatives across the organization.

The role requires a strong background in process improvement methodologies, project management and change management. The Operational Excellence Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement, develop and implement strategies, and monitor progress to ensure successful outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering results and driving continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

The purpose of the role is to develop, direct and own the lean transformation plan within J& J Innovative Medicine Bio Cork and ensure the strategy is executed in both a compliant and cost-effective manner. This person will be responsible for implementing key business improvement initiatives across the site and across the sector and enterprise where applicable.

This person will sustain & improve business results through the application of JJOS (Johnson & Johnson Operation System) deployment methodologies and be responsible for the sites continuous improvement pipeline.

Also, play a leading role in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and achieving sustainable high standards of manufacturing performance.

  • Lead and manage Operational Excellence team, programmes and initiatives across the organization, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and objectives.
  • Identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to optimize operational processes and enhance efficiency.
  • Collaborate with all functions across site to implement process improvements initiatives, utilizing Lean Six Sigma methodologies and other relevant tools.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by providing training, coaching and mentoring to employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Develop and implement metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor progress and measure the success of Operational Excellence programmes and initiatives.
  • Lead, facilitate and coach process improvement projects, ensuring timely completion and achievement of desired outcomes for the business.
  • Conduct regular assessments to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure compliance with Operational Excellence standards and best practice industry trends.
  • Provide guidance and support to continuous improvement projects teams, ensuring effective project management and adherence to timelines and budget (if applicable).
  • Collaborate with Senior Leadership to develop and implement a roadmap for Operational Excellence aligning with the organization’s strategic direction.
  • Stay up to date with industry’s best practices and emerging trends in Operational Excellence and proactively identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Deliver value for the business through creation of an annual continuous improvement pipeline (JJPS annual diagnostic). Coordination and management of CI project execution through JJPS Phases. Deliver on annual cost improvement goals for the site. Financially supervising JJPS
  • Own the implementation of key Operational Excellence initiatives across the site and across the platform/enterprise as required.
  • Collaborate with Operational Excellence teams at other J& J sites to share best practices in Operational Excellence.
  • Lead change management of the Operational Excellence programmes at the site.
  • Ensure alignment of Operational Excellence at Bio Cork site with the J& J Operations System (JJOS) Standard.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and a clearly identifiable work ethos within the Operational Excellence team.
  • Create opportunities to reward and recognize the success of individuals and teams.

Other responsibilities / detailed duties:

  • Gives strategic direction to site functional groups in the execution of their duties.
  • Coordinates the activities of the Operational Excellence team to create a collaborative approach to goals and tasks.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and directions to all site staff as appropriate.
  • Through personal expertise, leadership, and commitment, provides direction to the site in the development of a culture of Lean and continuous improvement.
  • Travels to locations to facilitate/coordinate activities, resolve issues, etc

Minimum Qualification

Essential:

  • Third level Degree or equivalent qualification in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics
  • Certified to Black belt level or relevant Lean Qualification
  • Solid understanding of World Class Manufacturing & Lean Manufacturing
  • Solid understanding of a regulated industry

Desirable:

  • Master’s degree in Lean Operations, Process Excellence, and/or Operations Management
  • Experience within a Life sciences or biopharmaceutical environment

Other requirements (Key competencies required)

  • Strongly skilled in process improvement and structured problem solving.
  • Knowledge and experience in Lean thinking – Systems Thinking, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, Problem solving, Line balancing, Standard Work etc.
  • Excellent listening and analytical skills, facilitation skills, organized, and able to lead people and help them through the challenges of change within a sophisticated environment.
  • Outstanding presence and interpersonal skills, able to inspire trust and quickly build credibility Must have tight-knit teamwork and influence skills.
  • Excellent intellect, strategic and tactical thinking ability, complemented by a “hands-on” operational and business planning orientation.
  • Accountability, with a strong desire to contribute, be held accountable and be rewarded for delivering results. Recognizes and builds support for change.
