Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; evenings/weekends

Location: Region 2 Includes the following store locations: Archer, Arvada, Central Park, Deja Blue, Golden, Havana, Lakeside, Tower, Wadsworth, Grand Junction, Leetsdale.

Must live in geographical area or be willing to commute.

Position Description

JOB SUMMARY:

To support the Senior (Sr.) Director(s) of Retail Operations with regard to all aspects of decentralized retail center operations through the implementation of best practices, a customer-centric focus, and Kaizen/process improvement efficiencies to realize maximum revenue in support of the mission of the organization. Acts in the Sr. Director’s stead in the administration of the Retail Operations Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

General

• Works closely with the Sr. Director(s), Retail Operations and other Operations and Sales Directors to execute, analyze, and update the 10-Year Retail Plan.

• Provides leadership, training, and support to Store Managers in all areas of retail sales management including, but not limited to, customer service, personnel supervision, departmental layout product merchandising, display, sales promotion, store cleanliness, merchandise shrinkage and store security. Ensures continuity of operations at all levels.

• Actively supports and participates in process improvement activities that will enhance the efficiency and safety of Goodwill employees.

• Accomplishes assigned goals and objectives within the Department.

• Oversees the donated goods acquisition and collection process for the decentralized operation; ensures donated articles are protected, properly sorted, loaded, unloaded, and transported in accordance with company policies; ensures continuity and a high level of customer focus at all locations; recommends techniques and personnel changes to improve efficiency, productivity, and professionalism.

• May participate in the purchased goods program to include product selection, inventory management, and merchandising processes.

• Assists in the interior design of new stores and develops and executes store openings with regard to set up, fixturing, and personnel requirements.

• Evaluates Store Managers.

• Directs Retail Store Managers to accomplish specific duties when necessary.

• Ensures that all store personnel are informed of and adhere to company policies.

• Authors and/or enforces Retail policies and procedures (SOPs) and other operational guides.

• Owns and oversees the Point of Sale System. Ensures effective use of performance metrics to implement continuous process improvement efforts and hold management accountable for performance outcomes.

• Works with the Sr. Director(s), Retail Operations to determine new store locations and assists in the processes necessary to open such locations.

• Keeps a watchful eye on competition and retail trends and recommends a course of action to the Sr. Director(s), Retail Operations.

• Complies with all OSHA and CARF requirements.

• Approves and authorizes payment of bills up to $7, 500.

Risk Management and Safety

• Ensures store participation in the Goodwill Retail Safety Committee.

• Working with their Store Managers, ensures accountability of store Safety Representatives for implementation and enforcement of safety protocols and procedures.

• Ensures that any member of the Retail management team (supervisors, ASM’s, etc.) are properly trained and are utilizing best practices to manage staff productivity and resolve conflicts as soon as possible.

Planning & Budgeting

• Works with the members of the Operations & Sales Team to execute annual goals and objectives specified in the annual revenue and capital budget.

• Works with their Store Managers to help them set goals and objectives for the Retail Division.

• Oversees and monitors store budgets to ensure sales goals are being met and expenses are within budgeted amounts.

• Provides input into the Operations and Sales management portion of the annual budget.

Strategic Planning

• Assist the Sr. Directors, Retail Operations in all aspects of Strategic Planning. Must participate in planning processes for key initiatives and track monthly results.

Relationship Management

• Provide leadership, training, and support to the Store Managers and oversees that they in turn push that training down to the Assistant Store Managers and all subordinates in all areas. Ensure continuity of operations at all levels. Ensure open communication.

• Represent Goodwill Operations & Sales Division at various community and/or business meetings to promote the company.

Executive / Management

• Participate in Board meetings, senior management meetings, and activities as required.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or a similar concentration preferred; an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Experience

Minimum ten years of proven and progressive management experience in a retail and/or thrift operation.

Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to present at a Board level, offering and exchanging information with others, so that the intended meaning is clear and understood. Must demonstrate the ability to interact with various internal and external customers and manage multiple projects. Must be able to successfully complete work assignments independently and as a team member. Must demonstrate flexibility and agility within the framework and pressure of established deadlines. Must be detail-oriented, able to learn specific rules, regulations, and standards to maintain compliance and conformance. Must have the ability to multi-task, be organized, and possess strong time management skills. Must be neat and professional, always representing Goodwill in the best light.

Must have proven ability to evaluate, recommend, and apply retail industry best practices within thrift industry operations to create an elevated, highly satisfying customer experience. Must be data-driven and results-oriented. Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets and benchmarking performance is essential.

Must have advanced experience working with computer systems such as Microsoft Office.

Other

Must maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Weekend hours may be required.

Per contract requirements with vehicle insurance provider: Qualified candidates must be 21 years of age and have no major traffic violations for previous 3 years (for driving/insurance purposes). Must have reliable transportation; must also be able to operate company vehicle.
