Job Description and Responsibilities

We are seeking a Safety Supervisor to join our team at our steel manufacturing facility in Pueblo, Colorado. This role is responsible for implementing, monitoring and continuously improving safety programs at an assigned mill. This role ensures compliance with federal, state and local safety regulations, promotes a culture of workplace safety, and works closely with front line employees, leaders and management to reduce workplace risks.

  • Monitor and enforce safety policies, procedures, and programs across assigned mill.
  • Develop and present monthly OSHA safety training, conduct forklift training, and aid in new hire training where necessary.
  • Track and communicate mill safety statistics
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections and risk assessments for work areas, equipment and processes (i.e. fire extinguishers, fall protection, eye wash stations, safety permits, SOPs, and various other safety related subjects)
  • Timely participation in incident investigations, including injuries, equipment damage, and near misses. Regular follow up to ensure corrective actions have been developed, implemented, and maintain and deliver mill safety statistics as needed.
  • Participate in employee engagement and co-chair Safety Sub-committee addressing various safety concerns.
  • Collaborate with operational and maintenance teams to identify hazards and implement solutions.
  • Act as the subject matter expert guiding front line supervisors and management in all things safety related up to and including investigations.

Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field with 5 years experience
  • Bachelors Degre preferred in Occupational Safety, Industry Hygiene, or related field with 3 years experience
  • In lieu of degree 7 years of occupational health and safety experience and training within a heavy industrial setting (steel, mining, construction, demolition, etc.). Experience in a manufacturing facility preferred.
  • Experience working and supervising in a Union environment preferred
  • Professional safety certifications (i.e. OSHA 10 or 30 instructor, ASP, CSP, CHST) a plus
  • Experience with ISO 45001, lean manufacturing, or behavior-based safety programs.
  • Working knowledge, understanding and implementation of OSHA regulations
  • Ability to professionally communicate in written and verbal forms to all levels of the organization.
  • Working knowledge of steelmaking production and operations
  • Experience working with Microsoft Applications (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

COMPENSATION

  • $85, 000 – $90, 000
