Provides specific sports instruction in soccer for various age groups in the community and maintains a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of specific sports program teaching strategies and the techniques used to meet established skills and abilities; considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, teaching methods and techniques that provide positive motivation; working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and training principles. Thorough knowledge of City and department rules and regulations.
SKILL: Public relations skills; demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.
ABILITY: Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and supervise the assigned program; control large groups of people; follow written and verbal instructions; remain current on the trends and rules of specific sports; communicate effectively to the participants when teaching skills; analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper course of action to be taken; work with little or no supervision, as necessary; analyze and assess facility, equipment and weather safety hazards; write incident and accident reports, as necessary; learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public.
TRAINING: None required. Additional specialty/certifications preferred if applicable.
EXPERIENCE: Some prior work experience preferred; experience with playing, officiating, or instructing sports programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:
- Develop and teach class content appropriate to the course description and level; develop appropriate tools necessary to offer quality; provide feedback to class participants and proper instruction in use of support materials.
- Monitor participants and their ability to participate; monitor attire to properly perform, (i.e., shoes, equipment, etc.) if applicable.
- Provide a safe environment for all participants; enforce all general building policies if applicable; complete any necessary reports and forms (i.e., Accident Report, Attendance Record, Supply Requests, etc.).
- Responsible for preparation for program activities; organize related equipment; may be required to set up and break-down materials used for instruction.
- Attend scheduled meetings as required; make supervisor aware of any customer, equipment, or facility needs.
- Assists lead staff in running programs; ensuring that the goals or objectives of the class are met.
- Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with participants to answer questions or resolve problems.
- Perform related duties as required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Must hold a current CPR/AED certification or be able to obtain within a reasonable time.
- Ages 14-15 limited to:
- School in Session - 3 hours/day; 18 hours/week between 7: 00 AM to 7: 00 PM.
- School not in Session (6/1 - Labor Day) - 8 hours/day; 40 hours/week, no later than 9: 00 PM.
